In this exciting and varied role, you will lead the IoT Data Specialists and work in conjunction with a team of IoT Specialists and with business stakeholders.The team acts as the IT internal ‘IoT Lab’, delivering IoT data proof-of-value agile experiments as well as larger projects and maintenance of the live system on-premise and in the cloud.What you’ll do

  • Take a lead role in evaluating, reviewing, and providing expert advice in data engineering and data science methods, tools, and/or standards used in the organisation
  • Take a lead role in planning, designing, and conducting unit tests on models and algorithms, correcting defects, and re-testing to achieve an error-free result in conjunction with the QA team
  • Take a lead role in planning, designing, and conducting performance and usability tests to achieve solutions that deliver acceptable performance and are easy to use
  • Take a lead role in the review of technical specifications from suppliers and IT partners to ensure that expected quality is maintained by these resources
  • Lead peer reviews for your team including contractors and third parties as required to ensure high standards of solutions delivered to the business
  • Work with the Technical and Solution Architects to establish and maintain agreed standards, patterns, and designs applicable to the work undertaken and to ensure that they are adhered to
  • Design, code, test, and document data solutions for Wessex Water, complying with agreed techniques and standards
  • Ensure that all model and algorithm development adheres to company security standards and that there are no breaches to data security either internally or externally to minimise the risk to the company
  • Develop and progress the team members, conduct check-ins, and follow all the line management tasks as outlined by the business.

What you’ll needIn this role, we are looking for:

  • previous experience of being in a lead position within a data engineering/data science team with a highly technical skill set
  • excellent team skills working in collaboration at a highly technical level with colleagues, IT partners, and IT consultants both on-site and off-site
  • experience with the complete data solutions development lifecycle: designing, developing, deploying, and debugging
  • advanced knowledge of Azure Data development using Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and ADX. Other services require a good working knowledge of Databricks, Logic Apps, and the Power Platform
  • knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks
  • knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests, and proper usage, etc.)
  • experience with the development lifecycle
  • hands-on coding experience with advanced Python and/or, R and/or, Scala
  • experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g. CosmosDB, Cassandra)
  • familiarity with testing techniques used to plan and execute tests of all components (functional and non-functional) to verify that the solution satisfies specified requirements and to detect errors
  • excellent academic qualifications, ideally an MSc in Data Science, AI/ML, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a similar field; BSc or equivalent experience may be considered.
