- MRCS or equivalent
- ATLS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- FRCS
Clinical ExperienceEssential criteria
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining ST3 General Surgery.
- Ability to attend range of problems both emergency and elective within surgery. Ability to take shared responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Ability to manage acute surgery and trauma admissions.
- Experience of major HPB resections
Desirable criteria
- Experience of General Surgery at ST7/8 level/phase 3 in the general surgery curriculum JAG accredited endoscopist Able to perform the majority of a major pancreatic resections
Management and Administrative experienceEssential criteria
- Ability to organize and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists and rota
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree e.g. MBA Leadership/management fellowship
Teaching experienceEssential criteria
- Experience of supervising FY1s and SHOs in Ward
- Experience of teaching medical students
Desirable criteria
- Higher teaching qualification e.g. PGCert/PGDip/MSc in Med Ed Training the Trainers Course Faculty on training courses
Research experienceEssential criteria
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems Presentations in National/International meetings
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree e.g. MD or PhD Participation in research studies including collaborative studies Publications relevant to HPB
Personal attributesEssential criteria
- Evidence of good team working Good interpersonal skills
- Enquiring, critical approach to work Caring attitude to patients
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs nurses and other agencies

- If the Primary Medical Qualification including clinical contact was not carried out using English, applicants must either: Have an academic IELTS score of at least 7.5 in each domain and overall Or demonstrate equivalence by providing evidence of English language skills.Or Complete the Occupational English Test (OET) and achieve grade B in each of the four domains tested in the OET to meet the GMC’s requirements.
