This is a permanent full-time position on a 5 days on, 2 days off schedule.Purpose:Reporting into the Breathing Air Centre lead, the Breathing Air Technician (BAT) is responsible for duties pertaining to servicing, inspecting, repairing, and certifying breathing air equipment according to policies, standards, codes of practice, work practices, and assurance. In addition, the BAT will complete Fit Testing for site personnel.The Breathing Air Technician is accountable for maintaining necessary stock of equipment necessary to support operations and emergency situations. The BAT works out of Shell Scotford’s Breathing Air Centre with the requirement to provide logistical breathing air support to Scotford’s Emergency Services Team. This role works Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm with the occasional need for extended hours.Accountabilities:
- Maintenance on SCBA & SKA-PAKs.
- Maintain rolling stock of all breathing air equipment (SCBA, SABA, Trailers, Air Carts, hoses, manifolds etc.)
- Annual inspections
- Fit Testing Shell Staff
- Manage logistics of sending equipment off site for testing
- Breathing Air Compressor daily inspections
- Posi-Testing all SCBA’s
- Mask Repairs and rebuilds
- Creating and updating procedures as required
- Assist with Fire Extinguisher assurance procedures
- Actively participate in the Scotford Safety program acting as ambassadors for HSSE.
- All other duties as assigned
Skills:
- Strong knowledge in all aspects of breathing air
- Knowledge and experience in hydrocarbon facilities would be considered an asset.
- Dedication to safe work and environmental responsibility.
- Well-developed communication skills.
- Leadership ability.
- Good organizational skills.
- Good Decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently with little to no supervision at times.
- Ability to work in a flexible work environment.
- Ability to excel in a high workload and high demand/fast paced environment.
- Physically fit
Education:
- Scott Level 1
- Scott level 2 would be considered an asset.
- Certified NFPA 10 would be considered an asset
- Class 5 drivers’ license.
- Certified in 1081 would be considered an asset.
- Satisfactory completion of a Pre-Access Drug and Alcohol Test
Experience:
- Breathing Air support experience in a Refinery, Upgrader or Chemical plant is considered an asset.
