We believe that connecting with the natural environment enhances well-being and promotes recoveryMain duties of the jobThe successful candidate will combine direct patient care with clinical leadership for our coproduced designed unit, which will begin accepting admissions in autumn 2025.oUntil then, you will play a pivotal role in leading the development and delivery of our clinical model.oYou will be supported by a skilled, multidisciplinary team, working together to create a center of excellence.oThe Consultant will deliver direct interventions to service users at a level of intensity according to their need. This will include the provision of psychiatric assessments, diagnostic formulation and the establishment of a treatment plan to address their mental and (if appropriate) physical health needs.oThe Consultant will also work collaboratively with the unit’s extensive multi-disciplinary team, engaging in both formal and ad hoc meetings relating to patient care and the efficient running of the unit.o The consultant will collaborate with colleagues within the trust, as well as colleagues in primary care, secondary care, third sector, and social care wherever this would be required.oOutreach Service – Consultant support will be provided by the individual’s existing Consultant Psychiatrist or Multi Professional Approved Clinician; Consultant to Consultant support may be requiredoThe Consultant will share the Responsible Clinician role for the unit’s inpatients with the unit’s MPAC.oThe Consultant will also have clinical supervisory roles, as outlined in the Job DescriptionAbout usWe are AWP (Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust) a diverse organisation with over 5,000 dedicated staff providing inpatient and community-based mental health care.   • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • Relevant Higher Degree e.g MD,PHD,Msc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

EligibilityEssential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

Desirable

  • CCT in Psychiatry of Intellectual Disability

ExperienceEssential

  • Experience of assessing and treating LD patients in an inpatient and community setting.

Personal SkillsEssential

  • To possess leadership skills and be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
  • Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, in order to effectively work with patients, carers and staff.

  • Ability to assess and treat psychiatric problems in adults with intellectual disability and/or autism.

KnowledgeEssential

  • Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a Consultant.
