Join our team today!Job DescriptionReporting to the Associate Vice President, Practice and Academics, the Manager, Interprofessional Practice, leads interprofessional practice processes that enable clinical teams to have the knowledge, skills and resources to deliver safe, high-quality, evidence-informed care and will ensure the program goals and objectives are met and are aligned with the corporate strategic plan.Working under the leadership of the Associate Vice President and in close collaboration with program medical and clinical leadership and other members of the Osler team, the successful candidate will provide exceptional leadership to the Professional Practice portfolio and help to create an environment of practice excellence for interprofessional teams. This position oversees the provision of interdisciplinary clinical and evidence-based practice focused on enhancing the delivery of high-quality care through clinical education, policy development and an optimized scope of practice. An adept leader and change agent with excellent communication and facilitation skills, the Manager develops and leads the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide world-class patient centered care that reflects the vision, mission, strategic directions, and values of Osler.Accountabilities:

  • Collaborates with the clinical educators and broader program leadership team in the development, evaluation and implementation of clinical education programs to support the successful uptake of evidence-informed best practices and guidelines, policies and standards of care in the clinical settings
  • In collaboration with program medical and clinical leadership, establishes a professional practice climate that optimizes the scopes of practice of clinical staff, provides guidance on principles, practices and models of care that guide the delivery of high-quality care
  • In collaboration with program medical and clinical leadership, establishes, reviews and evaluates organization wide professional standards and ensures that evidence-based best practices are standardized, implemented and sustained
  • Maintains a results orientation (monitors, evaluates, and drives performance improvement) that focuses on nursing, professional practice workforce and quality/practice indicators
  • Provides coaching and mentorship to clinical educators and professional practice leaders and enable a high-performing team
  • Advises directors and managers on the best models of care and appropriate staffing levels, including the development of business case for incremental growth of staff as a result of changes to clinical programs and bed numbers, in conjunction with finance
  • Supports clinical teams to adopt the most appropriate evidence-informed framework and framework to enhance their care and service delivery
  • Actively supports the development and implementation of new innovative programs, including transformational initiatives that impact clinical practices and workflows (e.g., adoption of the new hospital information system)
  • Develops effective processes for clinical engagement and in selecting, evaluating, decision-making and maintaining materials/equipment needed to provide world-class care to our patients and community we serve
  • Co-chairs best-practice and/or discipline specific practice committees as assigned
  • Develops and maintains effective interdepartmental relationships and team-focused culture
  • Provides leadership to standardize policies, procedures, and authorizing mechanisms, including the development of a standardized process for document management in the organization (as per Public Hospitals Act, Nursing Act, and Regulated Health Professions Act)
  • Creates a plan for identifying gaps and variabilities in practice and developing a plan to standardize practices and standard work where appropriate
  • Identifying initiatives and opportunity to continuously improve the patient and family experience at Osler
  • Build capacity for PPLs to seek grants (i.e., RNAO Fellowship)
  • Provides leadership support to Advanced Practice Nurses, by helping to standardize resources and processes to optimize the APN roles
  • Provides oversight for all aspects of clinical orientation for all regulated health care professionals
  • Nurtures relationships with external professional organizations and third-party partners
  • Leads corporate strategic initiatives as assigned
  • Direct oversight of a team of professional practice leaders with various disciplines, including (but not limited to) nursing, occupational and physiotherapy, respiratory therapy, speech language pathology, dietetics, laboratory and diagnostic imaging
  • Provides day to day operational leadership of staff in professional practice and manages all aspects of employee relations including human resource planning, recruitment, performance management, coaching/mentoring and professional development
  • Provides leadership and oversight for the implementation, and sustainability of best practice guidelines, including meeting the requirements to maintain our Best Practice Spotlight Organization designation
  • Provides operational leadership and reporting on Ministry of Health sponsored programs related to professional development, new graduate guarantee, internationally educated nurses, and other specialty initiatives related to recruitment and retention of health human resources
  • Maintains relationships with regulatory colleges, including responding to requests for information related to investigations and practice concerns. Provides subject matter expert guidance to leaders in the organization regarding regulatory legislation for all disciplines as per Regulated Health Professions Act
  • Creates reports to regulatory colleges as part of mandatory reporting requirements in a timely manner and escalates concerns to senior leadership accordingly
  • Collaborate with internal partners (e.g., clinical managers, Human Resources, Privacy, Legal, Finance) to ensure that reports are accurate and follows legislative/reporting stipulations

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years recent experience in a professional practice role required including at least three years in a progressive leadership capacity
  • A Registered Nurse or a regulated health care professional
  • Currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario or respective regulatory college
  • Master’s degree in nursing, education, a health care related field, or health care administration required
  • Membership in a professional organization an asset (e.g., CCHL, CNA)
  • A minimum of five years recent experience in a professional practice role required including at least three years in a progressive leadership capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large scale complex and transformational projects in a multi-site organization
  • Strong knowledge of each of the disciplines represented within the Professional Practitioners Department (nursing, OT, PT, SLP, RD, RT), including knowledge of the Regulated Health Professions Act, Nursing Act and the Public Hospitals Act
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
  • Ability to lead during times of ambiguity, while maintaining focus on creating clear processes and delivering on outcomes
  • Effective leadership skills with the proven ability to develop strong teams
  • Strong project management skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively plan, implement, evaluate, and sustain new initiatives
  • Results-driven and a strong business acumen
  • Highly organized and adaptable
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of quality improvement principles and practices
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to travel between all Osler sites
