Consultant Medical Oncologist with specialist skills in the management of Lung and Lower Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers10 PAsJob OverviewUniversity Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) NHS Foundation Trust are looking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant Medical Oncologist with specialist skills in the management of Lung and Lower Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers.Main duties of the jobThis is a new substantive post based at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW). The post holder will be based at the Bristol site with some sessions at North Bristol Trust (NBT) and will join established teams of consultants for the delivery of care. The postholder will deliver all aspects of clinical care for patients in the services they are supporting including outpatient clinics, ward rounds, attendance at relevant MDTs and have an on call commitment.Whilst the advertised post is for 10 PAs, candidates who are looking for a reduced number of sessions are encouraged to apply.We also welcome enquiries from individuals who may have interests in other tumour sites.The adult Oncology department has 33 (not all full time) consultants who work across Bristol and Weston. The Bristol site provides services to a catchment population of 2.2 million people. The radiotherapy department offers IMRT, high dose rate brachytherapy, SABR, Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery and molecular radiotherapy (radioligand therapy). Adult systemic anticancer treatment (SACT) is delivered in our 30 bedded in-patient unit, 20 chair chemotherapy day unit or in our two community units. There is a strong emphasis on research with the clinical trials unit actively recruiting in over 100 trials. Qualifications & Training
Essential

  • Full and specialist registration in either AIM or GIM with the General Medical Council (GMC) or
  • Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • FRCR or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent

Experience
Essential

  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Oncology
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion across a wide range of oncological situations both elective and emergency.
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision and be able to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Specialist experience in Lung and Lower GI cancers
  • Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy

  • Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
  • Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty
