Imperial College Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to appoint a Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon with a subspecialist interest in prostate cancer. The post holder will provide sub-specialist outpatient, diagnostic and inpatient services for adult patients. The post will require knowledge and skills in the surgical management of prostate cancer, including robotic assisted radical prostatectomy and/or focal therapy. The appointee will join the existing team to care for patients from the local community as well as tertiary referrals for complex urological conditions.The Imperial Prostate service runs the RAPID pathway for the diagnosis of clinically significant prostate cancer, which was pioneered by Professor Hashim Ahmed. The RAPID pathway incorporates the latest advances in the diagnosis of prostate cancer in to a single pathway. This includes the use of multi-parametric MRI, image fusion devices to fuse the mp-MRI information on to the ultrasound image to improve the accuracy of biopsy and the use of the transperineal approach for prostate biopsy. The Imperial Prostate service offers a range of treatment options for those patients diagnosed with prostate cancer including Focal Therapy (HIFU and Cryotherapy) and robot-assisted radical prostatectomy.Main duties of the jobThis is a 10 PA Post. The post holder is expected:To provide outpatient consultations for patients with referred with suspected and diagnosed prostate cancerTo provide outpatient consultations for patients with referred with benign prostate diseaseTo provide prostate cancer operative surgery (robotic assisted radical prostatectomy and focal therapy) as well as benign prostate disease operative surgery. This will include utilising operating lists when substantive Consultants are on annual leave.To input to the specialist MDT for prostate cancer as well as actively managing patient pathwaysTo take part in the on the Consultant Urology on call rota. The department operates a Consultant of the Week model.   • On GMC’s register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
  • On GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration
  • Appropriate Royal College Membership

Desirable

  • MD, PhD

Knowledge/ SkillsEssential

  • Demonstrable evidence of training and expertise in general adult and paediatric Urological surgery.
  • Significant experience in prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment (including operative experience in robotic assisted radical prostatectomy and focal therapy
  • Ability to undertake General Urology on-call, including supporting the major trauma centre at SMH.
  • Clinical judgment. Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
  • Evidence of accuracy, care and timely recording of all necessary clinical data, both written and electronic

Desirable

  • Experience of working as part of a prostate MDT
  • Post CCT Fellowship in robotic surgery or focal therapy for prostate cancer
