This post is for a full-time consultant with clinical commitments being undertaken at Kingston Hospital Foundation Trust and at Queen Mary’s Hospital NHS Trust, (QMH).Our well established, Clinical Haematology department provides expert investigation, diagnosis and treatment for patients with a wide variety of blood diseases as part of a regional system of care focused on improving population health locally and regionally.With expertise in the management of myeloproliferative disorders, myeloma, acute and chronic leukaemia, thrombosis and transfusion, our service works in conjunction with St George’s Hospital in managing malignant and non-malignant bone marrow diseases in conjunction which has an international reputation in non-malignant bone marrow failure including paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria, aplastic anaemia and Fanconi’s anaemia. Allogeneic and autologous bone marrow transplants are performed at St Georges Hospital, many in partnership with the Department of Oncology which has a large and expanding lymphoma practice, and is a recognised centre for unrelated donor transplants for non-malignant bone marrow diseases.Main duties of the jobThe job plan for this post has been prepared in accordance with standard requirements and will be agreed with the post holder on appointment.The range of duties and responsibilities outlined are indicative only and are intended to give a broad flavour of the range and type of duties that will be allocated.   • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • Applicants that are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
  • FRCPath or equivalent.

Desirable

  • MD/PhD/MBA
  • MRCP or equivalent

Clinical ExperienceEssential

  • Broad general experience of Haematology on SpR/STr rotation
  • Have a particular interest in Clinical trials

Management SkillsDesirable

  • Attended management training course.
  • Knowledge of finance / budgets

Experience in Training, Audit and ResearchEssential

  • Demonstrable commitment and ability to teach and train undergraduates and junior doctors.
  • Experience of clinical audit.
  • Relevant research articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Desirable

  • Completed ‘Train the Trainers’ course.

Personal QualitiesEssential

  • Demonstrate leadership skills within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to motivate staff, to facilitate appropriate changes in clinical practice and to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enthusiasm and approachability.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and clinical governance.
