This is a new opportunity for a clinical specialist occupational therapist role within the neuro-rehabilitation services at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The trust hosts a wide range of services including the NWL Major Trauma Centre, neurosurgery, neurology, stroke services and a level 2 specialist neuro-rehabilitation unit and you will be assessing and treating patients with traumatic brain injury, spinal injuries and those with progressive neurology. You will carry a clinical caseload which will involve assessing and planning patients’ rehabilitation journeys; and providing them with rapid access to intensive neuro-rehabilitation in the acute services. This rapid access to rehabilitation service is a multidisciplinary service which is led by the neuro-rehabilitation consultants. You will also outreach into the community, if required, working closely with the NWL community therapy teams.You need to have an understanding of the pathways available for patients across the rehabilitation journey. Your priority will be optimising patients’ readiness for their rehabilitation journey and will include encouragement of early self-management and patient/family education. You will work closely with our partners in the community to ensure a seamless integrated service for patients with neuro-rehabilitation needs.Main duties of the job

  • Inspire and motivate others to deliver best practice and to continually improve standards in line with the evidence base and national guidelines.
  • Provide clinical leadership and influence for planning and service delivery within clinical area of expertise.
  • To demonstrate professional skills, standards and experience consistent with a specialist in the field and to ensure/oversee that services provided comply with professional and departmental standards of practice in collaboration with the Clinical service leads /clinical academics and clinical leads.
  • To maintain and develop a breadth of knowledge of highly specialist assessment and intervention skills, including knowledge of appropriate specialist aids and equipment relevant to area of practice and to manage a clinical caseload as compatible with management responsibilities.
  • Promote and develop a learning environment within area of practice using a collaborative approach.
  • To support the development and implementation of a training strategy for area of responsibility in collaboration with team leads/clinical academics, and clinical specilaists.
  • Support research awareness and activity within the team, in collaboration with the clinical academics and clinical leads in therapies.
  • To maintain and enhance skills and knowledge in order to maintain professional competence and fitness to practise.

  • Health & Care Professions Council registration.
  • Evidence of experience /post graduate training and education to Masters level or equivalent and CPD relevant to speciality area.
  • Evidence of structured training on appraisal and supervisory skills
  • Evidence of continuous and current professional and academic development relavnt to clinical field
  • Leadership/ Management training
  • Evidence of post graduate training in basic research skills e.g literature reviews, critical appraisal.

Desirable

  • Masters or PhD degree in relevant subject
