Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS)This full time post is available 6th January 2025 on a fixed term basis until 30 June 2026.The postYou will be part of the ‘Mapping Connections: China and Contemporary Development in the Middle East” project, funded by Carnegie Corporation of New York and led by Professor Adam Hanieh at the Institute for Arab and Islamic Studies (IAIS).About youYou will:

  • be an Early Career Scholar, with demonstrable expertise and interest in China’s relationship with the Middle East, and a well-developed plan for research outputs in this area. Of particular interest is research into China and the political economy of the contemporary Middle East
  • PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field
  • be expected to support the project in other ways, including the organisation of events and workshops, developing material for the project website, social media outreach, and project reporting
  • have an excellent level of Arabic language skills, and experience conducting fieldwork in the region
