Funded MSc by Research for UK students only- in Open Research Resources for Secondary Schools.

The Meta-Research Group in the School of Psychological Science at the University of Bristol is offering an MSc by Research with funding to cover home student fees only.

The focus of the project is on open research. Funders, publishers and other stakeholders in the research ecosystem are increasingly promoting or even mandating open research practices (e.g., sharing of the data and code that underpin a research study).

However, at present, open research outputs – in particular data, code and other study materials, are not provided in a format that enables their wider use beyond the narrow community of academic researchers.

This project will develop and evaluate materials to complement existing open research outputs to enable their use in a secondary school setting, for example by providing materials (together with a lesson plan) for classroom demonstrations.

The project would include working with A-level psychology teachers to understand what open research outputs could be used in a classroom setting, and what additional materials would be required to enable this.

The student would develop, pilot and refine these study materials, collecting data on teacher and student reactions to the materials and to the classroom activities that they support. The focus will be on projects relevant to the A-level psychology curriculum.

The student would also have opportunities to develop links with relevant organisations such as the British Psychological Society as well as research funders, qualifications examination boards and others.
