Atlantic58 is a small but rapidly growing consultancy based in the Isle of Lewis in the Outer
Hebrides of Scotland. We provide a range of professional environmental consultancy services,
focusing on projects within the unique social, cultural, and ecological environment of the
Western Isles. Clients range from local community organisations to global multinationals and
cover a wide variety of sectors including the space sector, renewables, aquaculture, and
crofting. A position is now available for a Senior EIA Consultant to lead and manage
Environmental Impact Assessments across several sectors including space and aquaculture.

Duties

The role is to project manage EIA processes through the full project life cycle from
pre-application consultation, screening / scoping, EIAR collation and submission, through to
the discharge of post consent conditions. The successful candidate will have the confidence and
proven competence to lead a project from initial enquiry to final submission and beyond. The
role will also require costing projects at proposal stage and managing project budgets. Line
management duties will include leading an in-house team and subcontractors on a
project-by-project basis, but may extend to other line management duties, depending on the
skills and aspirations of the successful candidate.

Required

  • Demonstrable experience of successful management of the full EIA process, including client
    liaison, PAC / stakeholder consultation and budget management.
  • A specialism in at least one onshore or offshore EIA discipline developed through
    consultancy, planning, regulation or other commercial activity.
  • Evidence of high quality reporting, recording information, competency in interpreting and
    synthesising complex concepts.
  • Understanding of UK and Scottish EIA regulations, planning and guidance in relation to EIA
    and specific sectoral knowledge.
  • Associate or full member of IEMA or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines and adapt to a range of project
    requirements.
  • A full UK driving licence and ability to travel.
  • Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Post graduate qualification.
  • Experience in the regulation, assessment or support to the following sectors: space
    (orbital / suborbital), aquaculture, renewables (offshore / onshore) or infrastructure.
  • Public and / or stakeholder engagement / PAC experience.
  • Understanding of planning, environmental legislation and guidance relating to the marine
    and terrestrial environment (territorial waters and offshore).
  • Proficiency in QGIS.

The Location

The office is set within Lews Castle Grounds within the Isle of Lewis – a designated Garden and
Designed Landscape – covering over 270 hectares of woodland and ornamental gardens. The
immediate surroundings include a network of coastal, moorland and woodland paths, mountain bike
trails, a salmon and trout fishery and golf club. We are located a few meters from Lews Castle
and the Museum Tasglann nan Eilean.

Our office space has a dog friendly policy and includes a private enclosed area. We also form
part of the University of Highlands and Islands (UHI) campus in Stornoway and have close links
with academia both for collaborative course development and other emerging industry – academia
projects.

It would be preferable for the successful candidate to be based from the Stornoway office but
other office space in the central belt of Scotland would be considered, in addition to flexible
working arrangements.

Salary and benefits

  • Full time (35 hours per week) permanent.
  • Salary range £35,000 to £45,000 with increase following probationary and training period.
    Appointment will not necessarily be on the lowest point of the scale but will be commensurate
    with skills and experience.
