The Director, Protective Services will support all aspects of the company’s Executive Protection (EP) efforts, and will be responsible for leading a team of EP professionals. This role requires a deep understanding of the principles of EP, experience in leading a security or intelligence team, and the ability to think independently, improve processes, and problem solve quickly.
 

What you’ll do

 

  • Develops and implements EP strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure the safety and security of the Senior Leadership Team
  • Defines and communicates the vision and objectives of the EP program to senior management and stakeholders
  • Stays informed of emerging threats and security trends to proactively address potential risks
  • Oversees the execution of all EP activities, including planning, coordination, and operations.
  • Ensure that protective measures are tailored to the specific needs and risks associated with each executive or high-profile individual
  • Develops and manages budgets for the EP program, including resource allocation and cost control
  • Conducts comprehensive risk assessments and threat analyses to identify vulnerabilities and develop appropriate security measures
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to assess and address security threats and incidents
  • Develops and implements contingency plans and emergency response strategies
  • Ensures the effective operation of security systems, technology, and equipment used in EP
  • Coordinates with law enforcement, security agencies, and other partners to enhance protective measures
  • Oversees logistical arrangements for secure travel, transportation, and accommodation.
  • Possesses the flexibility for domestic and international travel, often on short notice as required
  • Leads and manages a team of EP personnel, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the successful execution of their responsibilities
  • Establishes and enforces performance standards and conduct regular evaluations of team members

 

All you’ll need for success

 

Minimum Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • Master’s degree in relevant studies, such as International Relations, Intelligence Systems, or Foreign Affairs, or equivalent experience/training
  • 7 years of leadership experience managing other individuals
  • 10+ years of experience in the protection of individuals or protection training, leading an EP team, or military intelligence/law enforcement service
  • ASIS CPP certified (Certified Protection Professional)
  • Experience in early dispute resolution strategy
  • Ability to effectively advocate and communicate on behalf of American Airlines with all levels of external officials 
  • Ability to build and facilitate long-term relationships at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Ability to delegate effectively and handle multiple responsibilities, manage available resources, make timely decisions, and understand the impact of those decisions on others
  • Ability to demonstrate time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel as necessary 
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and work a varied schedule
  • Ability and willingness to remain current with industry practices and developments
  • Mentoring and relationship building skills with ability to manage group and interpersonal conflict situations
