Mission
Geneva Call, a neutral, impartial, and independent international humanitarian organization, endeavours to strengthen adherence to humanitarian norms and principles to increase the protection of civilian population during conflict and post-conflict situations. With the overarching goal of civilian protection, Geneva Call focuses on various thematic areas, including the protection of healthcare, children and education, safeguarding cultural heritage, preventing famine, addressing displacement, advocating against the use of anti-personnel mines, and combating sexual violence and gender discrimination.
Geneva Call uses a diverse range of tools to raise awareness and influence humanitarian policies. Geneva Call’s engagements with de facto authorities, armed actors, and civilian populations are characterized by dialogue, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives.
In Afghanistan, Geneva Call leads humanitarian engagement efforts across multiple provinces, prioritizing the protection of conflict-affected communities. Through stakeholder engagement and dialogue facilitation, Geneva Call aims to foster adherence to international humanitarian norms and principles, thereby promoting the safety and well-being of vulnerable populations. With its main office located in Kabul, Geneva Call operates in several provinces, including Kandahar, Kunduz, Balkh, Nangarhar, Kunar, and Bamyan.

Role
Under the supervision of the Project Officer, the Project assistant contributes to the operations of Geneva Call in focused provinces by supporting PO in the implementation and the management of humanitarian engagement-related project(s) according to the program plans, internal procedures, and guidelines as well as donor requirements and security constraints. It is a national position.
Core responsibilities
Support the Project Officer in the implementation and management of project(s) following the work plan, budget(s), donor requirements, and internal procedures:
Planning, Coordination & Reporting
- Support the Project Officer in the development of narrative reports of GC events (training, workshops, forums) conducted in the province;
- Prepare reports on all project expenses and available funding, including supporting documents;
- Support the management of safe-keeping of information and knowledge, including the filing of program documents and materials;
- Raise purchase request (PR) for the events implemented in the province and share and follow up on the PR with the Kabul team;
- Ensure the safe transfer of financial documents to Kabul office;
- Upload all activity reports on Kobo and Sysel share;
- Prepare meeting minutes, field mission reports, and risk assessments;
- Organize venues and make other logistical arrangements for GC events (training, workshops, and consultation sessions);
- Support the Project Officer in quality assurance of project implementation and monitoring in accordance with Geneva Call and donor work plans, budget, and procedures;
- Any other task assigned by the Project Officer.
Communications & External relations
- Provide material (photos, videos, stories from the field) about the project and timely reports to showcase project outcomes and achievements;
- Support implementation of communications strategy including ensuring appropriate visibility during activities, campaigns, events and other initiatives.
Engagement
- In coordination with the Project Officer, engage with local authorities, communities, and organizations regularly;
- Assist PO in engaging senior officials and other key stakeholders at the provincial level;
- Provide support in arranging meetings, drafting speaking points and messages for GC senior management visiting the province.
Other Duties
- Ensure adherence to the Geneva Call Code of Conduct, PSEA, anti-corruption and other ethics and compliance policies;
- Attend and represent Geneva Call as required at conferences, seminars, and other forums of interest to the organization, as required.
Main qualifications
Education
- Completed Degree of in law or relevant field.
Work experience
- At least 4 years in a humanitarian/human rights/protection organization working in province and districts.
- Prior experience of working with international organisations.
- Experience with the organization and delivery of training and awareness raising.
- Experience in advocacy developing professional relationships with various stakeholder including armed actors and civil society and working in a neutral and objective manner a strong advantage.
- Familiar with humanitarian norms, principles and expert in engagement.
- Good stakeholder management.
- Understanding of Islamic law is an asset.
Technical skills
- IT Tools (MS Office, Excel, email).
- Experience in reporting, monitoring and research.
- Demonstrable knowledge of issues of humanitarian affairs and humanitarian framework and capacity for in-depth analysis.
Languages
- Required: Pashto, Dari and English.
