MiCT is seeking an MHPSS expert or organisation that can provide psychosocial support for at-risk journalists from conflict and crisis regions in multiple languages, as well as psychological first aid sessions and staff care workshops on a needs basis.   1. Introducing MiCT

Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a non-profit organisation delivering expert media services in complex and challenging contexts with passion, precision and agility. Through our collaborative work with our partners, we foster transparent, inclusive and fair dialogue supporting resilient societies that thrive.

Across three continents and 15 countries, MiCT facilitates the training of journalists and media producers, programme and content development, radio and film production, magazine and book publishing, media research and monitoring, in addition to supporting the financial viability of our partners.

2. The Program

The MHPSS expert is to support the MiCT Critical Voices Fellowship, which is aimed at media professionals from conflict and crisis regions who share a common value in their professional journalistic integrity. The program is currently focused on journalists and media makers from across the globe.. The Fellowship offers a modular support structure that can be adapted according to country and individual requirements, and focuses on 7 Module areas, specifically: Security, Livelihood, Health, Integration and Legalisation, Professional Development, Community and Resettlement, depending on Fellows’ individual circumstances. The program has a global mandate with a focus on journalists from Afghanistan, Sudan, Libya, Iran, Myanmar, Russia an Ukraine.

3. Description of the role

To support Fellows who face immediate psychological trauma and mental health issues, MiCT is looking for a MHPSS expert to provide short-notice, ad-hoc psychosocial support sessions online for media makers from the above country contexts in local languages. In addition the supporting team of up to 20 people should be provided with staff care and psychological first aid training as requested. The service should thus cover the following aspects:

  • Ad-hoc, flexible, individual psychosocial support sessions to Fellows
  • Provision of Psychological First Aid training for up to 20 people (max 2 days)
  • Development and provision of MHPSS support structure for Fellowship case workers (up to 10 people), including – but not limited to the following offer: needs analysis summarised in inception report, up to 40h of group MHPSS sessions, final report

Organisations and individuals are welcome to apply. Applicants are welcome to apply for only one of the above mentioned deliverables. MiCT withholds the right to divide the tasks amongst multiple support providers if required.

4. Application Requirements

Successful applicants should be able to provide proof of the following:

  • Proven psychosocial counselling qualifications
  • In-depth knowledge of trauma related support preferred
  • Experience analysing and coordinating MHPSS needs
  • Availability to provide group workshops online and offline until December 2024
  • Experience working with journalists and people in active crisis and conflict regions preferred
  • Counselling available in Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian, Russian, Farsi, Belarusian, and/or Burmese language preferred
  • Working knowledge of English is required.
