Sessional Lecturer – BUSI 4570U – Strategic Information Technology Management – Winter 2025Tracking Code: req1338Faculty of Business and Information TechnologyNumber of Sections: 1Appointment Type: Limited TermSalary Grade: Administered in accordance with the Collective AgreementPosting Date: September 30, 2024Closing Date: November 11, 2024Course Name and Number: BUSI 4570U – Strategic Information Technology ManagementLocation of classes: North CampusCourse Start Date: January 6, 2025Course End Date: April 25, 2025Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in BUSI 4570U – Strategic Information Technology Management.The current schedule is:Tuesdays 2:10PM – 5:00PM(This schedule is subject to changes)Responsibilities/Accountabilities:The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.Qualifications:In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently, and will be for the duration of the contract, legally eligible to work in Canada.Note that this course will be delivered in-person at Ontario Tech University’s North Campus in Oshawa, Ontario.Required Education:The successful candidate must have an advanced degree in Management Information Systems OR a Masters or PhD/PhD (ABD) in Business with a focus on Information Systems or Knowledge Management OR a combination of at least a Masters degree in a discipline related to Business Management or Information Studies combined with at least two years of work in a management position related to knowledge management or information systems.Preference will be given to candidates who meet the required education criterion with the following degree(s):
- A Masters or PhD/PhD (ABD) in Management Information Systems; OR
- A Masters or PhD/PhD (ABD) in Business with a focus on Information Systems or Knowledge Management; OR
- A Masters or PhD/PhD (ABD) in Knowledge Management or Information Sciences with a focus on the Business Management context; OR
- A Masters or PhD/PhD (ABD) in Knowledge Management or Information Sciences in combination with at least two years’ work experience in management; OR
- An MBA with a focus on Information Systems or Knowledge Management; OR
- An MBA combined with at least two years’ work experience in knowledge management or information systems.
Required Skills:The successful candidate will have:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to respond to student enquiries and to grade assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- High level of comfort with interacting with students and colleagues using online modalities such as Google Meets and Kaltura.
- Ability to manage a course effectively using a Learning Management System.
- An ability to develop innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
- An ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural and diverse community.
Required ExperiencePreference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate university courses in a business management or commerce program.
