Role Purpose:
To provide inspiring and authentic leadership, ensuring the academy achieves its vision, mission, and values. The Chief Academic Officer plays a pivotal role in delivering the academy’s strategic goals as set by the CEO and Board of Governors. This position requires meeting higher education regulatory standards while leading the institution’s quality assurance efforts.Key Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership, Management, and Governance
- Develop and communicate a compelling vision for the academy’s future, inspiring staff and stakeholders to work towards shared objectives.
- Lead the implementation of the academy’s strategic plan through effective and best-practice operational planning, balancing long-term vision with short-term actions.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, empowering staff to contribute ideas and take ownership of institutional growth.
- Promote an inclusive organisational culture that embraces equality and diversity, encouraging high performance among staff.
- Utilise emotional intelligence to manage, appraise, and develop senior leaders, creating a high-performing leadership team.
- Build strong relationships with external partners, regulators, and the broader Higher Education community, representing the academy at all levels.
- Lead change management initiatives, ensuring staff engagement and buy-in throughout organisational transitions.
Curriculum and Quality
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive quality assurance framework, including oversight of the Self-Evaluation Document (SED) process.
- Inspire academic staff to achieve excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment across all campuses.
- Drive innovation in curriculum development, encouraging exploration of new teaching approaches and technologies to enhance student outcomes.
- Actively engage with students, creating opportunities for their meaningful participation in the academy’s decision-making processes.
People Services
- Adopt a leadership style that fosters trust, collaboration, and empowers staff to reach their full potential.
- Implement talent management strategies to attract, retain, and develop top-tier academic and professional staff.
- Champion professional development programmes that align with the academy’s strategic objectives and staff career aspirations.
- Ensure open and transparent communication across the institution, ensuring staff feel valued, informed, and heard.
Finance and Resources
- Work with the executive team to develop and deliver a strategic financial plan that supports the academy’s mission and values.
- Demonstrate strong financial skills in managing resources, ensuring investments are aligned with strategic priorities and foster institutional growth.
- Lead improvements in data-driven decision-making, overseeing key data submissions (e.g., HESA) and tracking student success metrics (e.g., continuation rates).
Business Growth and Partnerships
- Serve as an ambassador for the academy, promoting its value to diverse stakeholders and building strategic partnerships.
- Lead collaborations with industry partners to ensure that the academy’s programmes remain relevant and aligned with employer needs.
- Encourage staff to engage in outreach and partnership activities, fostering a culture of external engagement throughout the academy.
