St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking a dedicated and experienced Research Services Supervisor to lead the ARC Research Services unit within the ARC Department. This position is integral to supporting our cutting-edge research efforts, providing critical oversight of technical in-vivo services that facilitate the rapid progression of research projects from concept to publication. The Research Services Supervisor’s responsibility includes delegating technical in-vivo work for pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic projects by working directly with members of the research community for acute and chronic murine studies.

 

This role balances the project work with production colony management, technical requests, and hands-on training. They will also provide strategic oversight in areas such as surgical procedures, quarantine management, ABSL-2 area operations, and multi-species research while developing and implementing standard operational procedures. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in in-vivo research and will possess strong leadership and organizational skills. This role demands a collaborative approach, working closely with various departments to remove technical barriers and streamline research processes, all while upholding the highest standards of care and research integrity.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with researchers to design in vivo studies

  • Develop training and manage use of BASi Culex machine 

  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and oversee daily operations of research services staff to meet department and customer requirements.

  • Define and monitor operating plans for the area, including workflow, resources, and personnel scheduling.

  • Guide performance of research services (e.g., breeding colony management) in terms of quality, timelines, and technical acumen.

  • Assist in the development of SOPs and process guidelines in each area.

  • Identify, propose, and implement process improvements and new approaches/techniques within each area.

  • Track and report metrics for different areas to leadership teams.

  • Assist in planning and monitoring of overall team budgets.

  • Plan and deliver ongoing training and skill-building programs for all technicians/personnel in research services.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Associate’s Degree preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

 

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum Requirement: 8+ years of experience in a professional husbandry care facility (e.g., zoo, veterinary clinic, laboratory animal facility with a high school diploma/GED.

  • Experience Exception: 6+ years with Associate’s degree

  • Experience Exception: 4+ years with a Bachelor’s degree.

  • Significant technical experience within own area (e.g. model handling and restraint; model health monitoring; operation and sanitization/sterilization of equipment; sample collection).

  • Experience managing/guiding ARC software systems and databases for maintenance/review/analysis of records/data/reports.

  • Experience working with/implementing regulations and policies regarding animal research (e.g., ILAR Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Models, USDA Welfare Act and Regulations).

  • Demonstrated success managing teams/ resources/ timelines.

  • Experience providing broader mentorship within and across teams.

  • Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role.

 

 

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $65,520 – $114,400 per year for the role of In-Vivo Research Services- Supervisor.
