Job Summary
Works within the System Performance Analysis group. The System Performance Analysis group conducts advanced system studies to support capital projects, including but not limited to transient stability, voltage stability, electromagnetic coupling, insulation coordination, geomagnetically induced currents, electromagnetic field, and Power Quality using PSS/E, ASPEN OneLiner, PSCAD, and Alstom electrical engineering technologies.
More specifically, responsibilities include the following duties:

Conduct system performance analysis and provide solutions to support planning, operations, engineering, regulatory and financial needs of the company.

Perform electrical engineering studies related to power system stability, reliability, and compliance.

Perform transient and voltage stability studies, insulation coordination studies, electromagnetic field studies, and studies of geomagnetically induced currents and geomagnetic disturbance.

Perform power-flow analyses in support of system stability, system restoration, and geomagnetic disturbance analyses.

Develop and maintain power system models.

Calculate electromagnetic interference for overhead and underground transmission lines.
Job Description
Based on education, experience and interview, this opportunity will be filled commensurately at any title in the Engineer Job Family . For this posting, minimum requirements are written at the lowest grade. Increased expectations are at higher grades.

Engineer (grade 7)
Engineer (grade 6) = bachelor’s degree in engineering + two (2) years of experience; OR, may be considered entry-level with a master’s degree in engineering
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS are listed below:
Technical Expertise: Possesses advanced knowledge and performs varied assignments with proficiency in the application of theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analyses. Understands interrelationship between systems and component equipment. Analyzes and recommends enhancements to business processes.
Leadership and Guidance: Coordinates work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary to perform routine engineering work. Performs routine engineering activity independently. Provides training and guidance to lower-level employees. Planning and Organizational Ability: Develops input necessary to forecast costs for the routine projects, improvements requisitions, etc.
Problem Solving and Initiative: Resolves and initiates solutions to routine and/or moderately complex problems which usually require additional definition/clarification before analysis can begin. Identifies problems that are beyond the normal routine. Seeks out opportunities and embrace new ideas and approaches.
Communication Skills: Helps coordinate the work of other engineers in an efficient and effective manner.
Interpersonal Skills: Leads aspects of team effort. Effectively leverages skills developed from company programs such as Power Up & Lead.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET; Individuals with a Master’s degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.*ABET – Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.
INITIAL POSITION / BASE SALARY FUNDING: ($70,961 – $122,491). In addition to base salary, AEP offer competitive Total Rewards including: discretionary annual incentive, 401(k), pension, health insurance, vacation, educational assistance, etc.
