About the RoleAs a Food Safety & Quality Assurance Technician, you will act as the first checkpoint in the effective food safety and quality assurance system. Reporting to the site FSQA Manager, you will work closely with the Production and Receiving teams to uphold our FSQA standards at the distribution center. This will involve quantitative measurements, environmental and product sampling, inspection of incoming raw materials and observation of the production process.What you will be doing:

  • Complete monitoring activities and maintain accurate reports and records (ex. GMP records, temp logs);
  • Be involved in quality control activities, such as intake, WIP and finished production inspections;
  • Perform pre and post-operation and sanitation monitoring of the food processing environment and equipment;
  • Deliver FSQA training to new and existing associates;
  • Conduct environmental monitoring and equipment calibration verification, (Environmental sampling & ATP swabbing)
  • Create tickets when escalations are required for product non-conformances;
  • Work with the Quality & Technical team to conduct sensory and microbiological shelf life studies;
  • Maintain clear and concise communication with the Operations, Procurement and Logistics teams;
  • Uphold HelloFresh’s protocol for achieving the highest level of food safety and quality assurance.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations.
  • Use personal protective and safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer and report workplace hazards and dangers to the supervisor or employer.
  • Other duties as assigned

At a minimum, you have:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a food safety or quality assurance role in the food, cosmetic or other regulated industry;
  • Understanding of HACCP principles, the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations and GFSI schemes;
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, varying shifts and holiday work, as required
  • Willing and able to work in a refrigerated environment (0°C to 4°C)
  • Ability to lift boxes up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets) and video conferencing (Hangouts, Google Meet)
  • Team player who is comfortable collaborating with other departments but also working independently;
  • Comfortable working in a deadline-driven and fast-paced environment
  • Education in biological/life science is considered an asset.
