Org. Setting and Reporting
This post is located in the Sustainable Stock Exchanges Programme (SSEP) in the Division on Investment and Enterprise (DIAE) of the United Nations n Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Associate Economics Affairs Officer reports to the Programme Coordinator of the SSEP.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Economic Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following: Economic and/or sector analysis ● Collects, contributes to research evaluating, interpreting, analysing specified statistics and qualitative socio-economic information obtained from a variety of sources and pertaining to responsible investment for sustainable development, including on the role of sustainable stock exchanges. ● Maintains databases and programmes for database management and organizes non-quantitative information on responsible investment for sustainable development. ● Prepares inputs to briefing notes, speeches and similar material on responsible investment for sustainable development issues in a form that is meaningful to non-specialists. ● Prepares first drafts of or components of analytical studies on responsible investment issues and policies. ● Contributes to awareness raising campaigns through social media and other means. ● Assists in the organization and servicing of informal expert group meetings, seminars and events. Technical cooperation ● Compiles and analyses the data and other information necessary for the preparation of technical cooperation project proposals in the area of investment for sustainable development. ● Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programmes and on-line training projects. ● Supports and contributes to monitoring, backstopping and assessing the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and on-line training projects. ● Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the unit’s work programme on technical training. ● Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally.

Education
Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in economics, finance, public policy, sustainable development or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes is required. The above-mentioned experience in the field of investment issues is desirable. Experience working on sustainable finance is desirable. Experience contributing to the organization of training courses is desirable. Experience producing content for social media consumption is desirable. Experience managing stock exchange sustainability databases is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
• These positions are immediately available for an initial period of six months. This is a project funded position and any extensions would be subject to availability of funding, satisfactory performance and continuing need of the service. • If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
