The subject area offers popular Joint Honours undergraduate degree and postgraduate degree programmes in Media & Communication, Digital Journalism and Gender Studies. JMC @Strathclyde is a leading subject group with internationally recognised academics and professional practitioners. We are consistently ranked highly – most recently 1st in the UK for Communication & Media Studies (The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024). Within JMC, we have research strengths in gender & media; science, health & environment; politics, publics & activism, and violence & conflict. As an institution, Strathclyde has invested heavily in training for postgraduate researchers and we have a thriving PhD community, with many students working across disciplinary boundaries within the Department and wider University.The opportunityThrough the Charlotte Lythe bequest, we are investing in a number of Lythe Lectureships across Humanities to support the development of postgraduate teaching and research programmes and enhance our research excellence.The Department of Humanities wishes to appoint a Chancellor’s Fellow/ Lythe Lecturer in Media Analytics. The successful candidate will be an early/mid-career scholar who will conduct research and undergraduate teaching in the Journalism, Media & Communication subject area.We are seeking applicants with an expertise in the broad area of media analytics, audience measurement and/or the use of ‘big data’ for journalism, media and communication, media management. The successful candidate will be an early/mid-career scholar who will conduct research and undergraduate teaching in the department, as well as contributing to our successful Masters programmes, supporting the development of new interdisciplinary PGT provision and providing PhD supervision. The ability to teach Python programming at undergraduate and postgraduate levels would be an advantage.Humanities is central to the University of Strathclyde’s position as a socially progressive, leading international technological University and we are keen to hear from applicants who can offer vision to connect media analytics to research and teaching across the University.   • Your Fellowship will normally be at lecturer level (exceptionally, at senior lecturer (Grade 9) (£58,596 – £65,814) where you have a strong track record in research leadership) for 5 years, with the expectation that you’ll meet our promotion criteria within that period and be transferred to senior lecturer (or, where you’ve been appointed as a senior lecturer, Reader) level.
