Required to fill this replacement post within the Nuclear Medicine and Radiology Departments at St James’s University Hospital.This is a full-time appointment for a Consultant Radiologist with special interests in Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT as well as Head & Neck imaging.Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.If shortlisted, you will be required to give a 10-minute presentation on:Opportunities and challenges for PET-CT services in the next 10-yrsINTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD VIA MS TEAMS: Wednesday 22 January 2025Main duties of the jobThis post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT team (Dr Chirag Patel, Dr Fahmid Chowdhury & Prof Andrew Scarsbrook). The post-holder will provide specialist Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT reporting, general radiology reporting (plain films and acute CT), radiology input to the head & neck and thyroid MDTs and join the diagnostic CT on-call rota. There will also be opportunities to contribute to Head & Neck reporting (ultrasound, CT and MRI).The post will be cross-site at St James’s University (base hospital) and Leeds General Infirmary.The successful applicant should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.Applicants should have established skills in Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT (essential) as well as general/acute radiology (essential) and an interest in Head & Neck Imaging (desirable). Job responsibilitiesIn relation to this post the appointee will be expected to contribute to and develop the diverse portfolio of Nuclear Medicine and Head & Neck radiology services delivered in Leeds.2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POSTThis replacement post in Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT is required to meet growing demand for specialist functional imaging services in Leeds and the wider West Yorkshire region. The post will replace the loss of an existing consultant predominantly delivering Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT as well as contributing to Head & Neck imaging services.The postholder will be expected to contribute to acute CT and on-call diagnostic CT rota.Overview of Radiology in LTHTThe LTHT radiology department is one of the largest in Europe and has an established reputation for clinical innovation and expertise along with a significant teaching and research profile. The department contains one of three national radiology training academies with associated educational facilities and resources for the Leeds Bradford Radiology training scheme. In terms of research the department has helped establish a NIHR funded research 3T MRI as part of the Leeds Biomedical Research Unit contained on trust premises. Within this unit imaging plays a large part in most musculoskeletal projects along with performance of separate radiology specific research.Recently the department has also been successful in obtaining funding for developing and establishing an academic programme focusing on oncology radiology led by a Professor of Radiology.The University of Leeds is a major partner in both of these research streams and is looking to expand the latter with specific academic radiology appointments. In terms of University honorary appointments radiology consultants have formed a large proportion of the recently created Honorary Clinical Associate Professor positions.Research and Education are priorities for the Trust and any new radiology consultant appointed will have the opportunity to explore furthering research and educational possibilities when in post if they wish (please also see 4).The Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT department is well established in LTHT delivering approximately 10,000 general nuclear medicine examinations and over 5,000 PET-CT scans annually. There are three dual-trained consultants in radiology and nuclear medicine, supported by two radionuclide radiologists and one oncological imaging radiologist.Person Specification
Training, Research, Teaching & Audit
Essential
- Should have completed a recognised training programme in clinical radiology and radionuclide radiology.
- Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
- Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
- Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
Desirable
- Additional training in PET-CT.
- Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
- Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
Qualifications
Essential
- MB BS (or equivalent).
- FRCR or equivalent qualification.
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
- YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
Desirable
- Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty.
Experience
Essential
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT as well as acute CT.
- Specifically, must demonstrate experience of independent practice in head & neck and thyroid cancer MDT.
- Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
Desirable
- Clinical experience and competence in Head & Neck Imaging (CT, MRI and ultrasound).
