The Linguistics department has a track record of innovative and excellent research in theoretical and experimental linguistics.About the roleThe Department of Linguistics at UCL has for over 50 years played a leading role in research in Pragmatic Theory, with a special emphasis on making contact with wider cognitive scientific research into the functions of the human mind. As a centre for research in pragmatics and related fields of semantics, philosophy of language and child developmental research, it attracts high quality PhD students, plus it offers high quality introductory and advanced teaching to Undergraduate and Taught Masters students. Thus the expectations for the role will include carrying out research in pragmatics (or cognate fields) that makes substantive contact with cognitive science research; advising masters and doctoral students; and contributing to the departmental teaching in pragmatics and related fields.The appointment can be made at grade 8 (Lecturer = Assistant Professor) should the post be offered to an outstanding early career candidate who has met the criteria and has completed their PhD in the last three years. Grade 8 currently begins at an annual salary of £52,487 including London allowance.For informal queries about the role and the application process please contact PaLS HR ().About youThe successful candidate will have a clear program of research within pragmatics which makes contact with the cognitive sciences. The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of high-quality publications and research-related activity commensurate with the stage of their academic career. They should hold a PhD in linguistics or a closely related area.
