Contract: Open EndedThe global Fashion Design discipline consists of passionate and dedicated academics from a range of backgrounds, with distinct and diverse specialisms. The fashion discipline broadly focuses on design research, creative practice, and digital aspects of fashion and is delivered within our UK campus.The School of Textiles has an unsurpassed reputation in advanced tailoring expertise and crafted textiles expertise across knit, print and weave. It now wishes to add to and complement its skills portfolio with the development of Digital Fashion in line with the future direction of the School. It seeks to recruit an enthusiastic and creative individual who has the ability to lead/contribute to the development of digital pattern and garment development processes.This is an exciting role where the successful candidate will work collaboratively across design teams to embed specialist digital fashion expertise and develop pedagogy relevant to a new curriculum, alongside making an active contribution to existing courses across design, pattern cutting and garment construction courses in the Fashion discipline (BA Hons Fashion and MA Fashion).You will possess a strong understanding of contemporary practice, digital fashion futures, sustainability and current debates across the wider fashion industry. This will underpin your passion for enhancing your own practice and will inform your knowledge of the skills and attributes required by graduates for future employability.You will be experienced in learning, teaching and assessment at HE level. An enthusiastic and visionary academic who will support and encourage students to achieve their full potential.Essential Criteria
- Minimum Masters Degree in a Fashion related subject.
- Recognised teaching qualification, i.e. PGCert/PGCap or membership/fellowship of Higher Education Academy (HEA). Or be committed to achieving this within two years of appointment
- Teaching and learning experience and/or equivalent industry/professional/ experience and/or relevant demonstratable experience in 3D digital pattern cutting and garment construction utilising CAD/Cam software appropriate to the fashion industry.
- Teaching and/or sound working knowledge of 2D Digital software packages relevant to Fashion and Textile Design and presentation
- Teaching and/or relevant industrial/professional experience demonstrating skills across the entire fashion design process: (Research and development, pattern cutting and garment construction)
- Evidence of understanding of learning, teaching and assessment at HE level
- Evidence of a well-developed knowledge of contemporary practice across the fashion discipline and related areas.
- Evidence of a strong understanding of emerging challenges of sustainability and AI/AR/VR facing the fashion industry
- Evidence of sound understanding of current and future industry needs and the future skills required by graduates for employability
Desirable Criteria
- PhD in a fashion or design related subject
- Industry experience in Digital Pattern Cutting and Realisation, with working knowledge of the fashion industry
- Evidence of professional practice/working within the fashion industry or similar, commensurate with appointment at this level
- Evidence of knowledge in applying Fashion and related design to broader design research/societal challenges
- Candidates may be considered for either Teaching and Scholarship or Teaching and Research role. Candidates who can demonstrate a considerable research track record will be more likely to be considered for a T/R role.
