Contract Type: Open EndedWork Hours 35.0 Hours per WeekWeeks per year-Weeks per year: 52.00The roleA 12-month post-doctoral position in computational design and engineering biology to explore and optimise enzyme attachment to red blood cells for therapeutics. The successful candidate will join the lab of Professor Ashley Toye in the School of Biochemistry at the University of Bristol to work on a 12-month fixed-term project. The Toye lab conducts pioneering research on erythrocytes, erythrocyte biology and erythropoiesis in health and disease, with a strong emphasis on translational science.What will you be doing?This position will focus on computational protein design, recombinant protein production, and the exploration of methodologies for attaching enzyme-based therapeutics to red blood cells (RBCs).You will play a pivotal role in optimising, designing, producing, and characterising novel therapeutic proteins engineered for attachment to RBCs. Building on the lab’s recent developments, your work will include producing novel recombinant proteins in bacteria at sufficient yield and quality for downstream applications, potentially including preclinical animal studies.You should apply if

  • You will hold a PhD or be working towards one, and have a background in Synthetic biology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry or related subject.
  • You will have significant knowledge and experience of using computational approaches to design novel synthetic proteins.
  • You will also have extensive experience in the production and isolation of recombinant proteins in bacteria for downstream applications and testing.
  • You will be a team player who can work independently and collaboratively.
  • You will have an interest in commercialisation of research.
