Alongside undergraduate programmes based in Modern Languages or Comparative Literature, SELCS-CMII is home to UCL’s graduate (taught MA/MSc) programmes in Language, Culture and History; Comparative Literature; Translation Studies (CenTraS); Film Studies; Gender, Society and Representation; Race, Ethnicity and Postcolonial Studies; Heal th Humanities; European Studies; and Early Modern Studies.About the roleThe post holder will be appointed to Associate Professorship (Teaching) in a subject area commensurate with their expertise and within the range of disciplines taught in SELCS-CMII, but the primary purpose of this post is to take on the role of Departmental Tutor. The post holder’s remit will encompass oversight, development, implementation and communication of departmental and UCL regulations, policies and procedures relating to learning, teaching, assessment, student welfare and engagement, and quality assurance. The post holder will have responsibility for all taught undergraduate (c. 800) and postgraduate students (c. 350) in SELCS-CMII. The post holder is ex officio a member of the SELCS-CMII Senior Leadership Team, will represent the department at relevant Faculty and UCL committees, and will work closely with a range of academic, teaching and professional services staff. They wil l also teach one to two modules (20-40 contact hours) per year and/or supervise BA or MA dissertations and/or PGR students, and provide professional development opportunities for staff in SELCS, as appropriate to their expertise and as agreed with the Head of Department. The closing date for applications is January 31st 2025 and the post is expected to begin on 1st June 2025.About youThe postholder will have a PhD or equivalent, in a subject relevant to one or more programmes offered in SELCS-CMII, OR in a relevant aspect of Higher Education pedagogy. They will have experience of teaching and assessment at a Higher Education institution or at an equivalent level, in one or more subjects relevant to programmes offered in SELCS-CMII, as well as experience of delivering pastoral and academic support to students in a Higher Education context. They will have demonstrable experience of leadership or team management relating to Education and Student Experience in a Higher Education context, in addition to excellent knowledge of the UK Higher Education landscape, including current trends and challenges. The post holder will have a proven ability to interpret and oversee the implementation of detailed and complex policies, procedures, and academic regulations and communicate them effectively to staff and students, as well as a proven ability to engage empathetically and constructively with students.
