Grade 8: £46,485 – £55,295 per annumThe PostStirling Law School wishes to appoint a suitably qualified Teaching and Research (T&R) Lecturer in Scots Law. A Scots Law LLB and/or being qualified as a Solicitor or Advocate in Scotland is an essential requirement. The School is keen to ensure that we continue to offer all the subjects in the LLB for which it is possible to get an exemption from the Faculty of Advocates exams and to offer all the Law Society of Scotland required subjects, both to a high standard.The post has a Scots Private Law focus and the current teaching needs are in Contract Law and Commercial Law.Expertise in the following subjects is desirable:

  • Scots Law of Contract
  • Scots Commercial Law

The main responsibilities are to teach and supervise undergraduate students and to undertake administrative duties as appropriate to the grade of appointment.Initially, the successful applicants will be responsible for:(a) Coordinating and delivering core and specialist modules in the LLB/BA (Hons) programmes
(b) Contributing to dissertation supervision and assessment in the LLB/BA (Hons) Law programmesDescription of DutiesGrade 7

  • Engage in individual and collaborative research, which aligns to the strategic direction of the University, develop a programme of research and disseminate results through regular publication in high-quality journals, books and conference proceedings
  • Identify appropriate sources of funding, prepare research proposals for funding bodies and manage grants awarded
  • Supervise research students as required, providing direction, support and guidance

Grade 8

  • Engage in individual and collaborative research, which aligns to the strategic direction of the University, establish a distinctive programme of research and disseminate results through regular publication in high-quality journals, books and conference proceedings
  • Identify appropriate sources of funding, prepare research proposals for funding bodies and r=”ltr”>manage grants awarded
  • Supervise research students and staff as required, providing direction, support and guidance

Essential CriteriaGrade 7

  • LLB in Scots Law and/or being qualified as a Solicitor or Advocate in Scotland
  • PhD in relevant discipline or close to successful completion
  • Evidence of a developing publication record

Grade 8

  • LLB in Scots Law and/or being qualified as a Solicitor or Advocate in Scotland
  • PhD in relevant discipline
  • Established track record of high-quality published research
