About usThe Institute of Prion Diseases is part of the Faculty of Brain Sciences, School of Life and Medical Sciences (SLMS), at UCL. The Institute incorporates the Medical Research Council (MRC) Prion Unit which is an internationally renowned research centre for prion and other degenerative conditions of the brain, including Alzheimer’s disease. It provides a National centre of expertise and training in its field.The MRC Prion Unit has undertaken ground-breaking research published in the highest quality research journals and its research programmes are highly multidisciplinary and focus both on areas of public health concern and a long-term approach to the understanding of prion disease. They include studies of molecular structure, genetics, biochemistry, immunology, cell and animal models, and clinical research – including treatment trials. Major programmes to develop novel therapies are underway.The Institute is based in the UCL Courtauld Building in Fitzrovia, a vibrant and exciting area of central London, with excellent transport connections and local cultural and social amenities.About the roleWe have an exciting opportunity for an Executive Assistant to join our team, supporting the Institute Director.The Executive Assistant manages the office of the Institute Director Professor John Collinge CBE FRS, who occupies a complex, high profile academic and clinical role as Director of the University College London, Institute of Prion Diseases and the NHS National Prion Clinic. He has a multiplicity of contacts in the UK and overseas, including many associated with government and other official bodies as well as the media and the public. As the person with the closest knowledge of the Director’s goals, priorities, interests and schedule, the Executive Assistant is the point of contact between his office, his Institute and Unit staff, the University and many external bodies. The Executive Assistant must have the knowledge and confidence to make decisions, unsupervised and often without the Director’s input. Creating and maintaining good working relationships with other Institute and Faculty heads, media representatives, community members and other influential people is expected.

for more information.About youThe Executive Assistant represents the Director and the University at all times. For this reason, it is important that the Executive Assistant develops an understanding of the Director’s vision, mission and goals and is aware of University and MRC policies.In addition to coordinating the Director’s numerous activities, the Executive Assistant is expected to organize meetings and functions hosted by the Director.Excellent communication and organisation skills are therefore essential for this role as well as the ability to work independently and proactively in high pressured environments.Additional Information:
