The division leverages stakeholder intelligence, robust economic principles and advanced data analytics to formulate effective strategies that support job creating investments in Alberta.The Data and Analytics Unit develops and maintains internal and external websites, information products, tools, and models to inform policy development and program delivery, identify opportunities in Alberta, and inform investment decision-making across the province.To learn more about the ministry please visit:Role ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Director, Data and Analytics, the Senior Economic Analyst is responsible for leading the development of new and existing internal information products the unit produces and supports the development and operations of the unit’s external information products. The position also analyzes and communicates economic data and information more generally, to both internal and external stakeholders. These activities support economic development work across the Government of Alberta (GoA) as well as help industry stakeholders and businesses to understand and respond to changing market factors. This position is also responsible for:
- Providing analysis and input on the development of the unit’s external data applications, including the Investment Data Hub and Economic Dashboard, including recommending and compiling data and analysis.
- Providing recommendations on the integration of technology and artificial intelligence into the unit’s analysis and working with staff within the unit to implement within the unit’s data applications and other information products.
- Review analysis produced by junior staff to maintain data standards and ensure analysis is accurate, reliable, and meaningful to stakeholders.
- Provide recommendations to management and branch executive on opportunities for new internal or external information products.
- Contribute to the development of responses to Action Requests and/or briefing materials for senior leadership including the Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister and the Minister.
- Collaborate with other branches, divisions, ministries and governments in conducting research and providing economic analysis to ensure thoroughness and consistency in the development of assigned projects, programs and policies.

QualificationsUniversity graduation in Economics and Business or in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Knowledge and Skills required:
- Experience in economic research and analysis projects involving large datasets.
- Theoretical knowledge of the principles and approaches of economics.
- Familiarity with economic development concepts and impacts.
- Experience communicating economic data to general audiences.

- Experience in modelling large economic datasets.
