The UNESCO Regional Office in New Delhi covers Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. The incumbent shall contribute to the design, implementation, development, and coordination of activities carried out under Major Programme IV – Culture in the South Asia region in close collaboration with the Member States, local communities, and other stakeholders and close cooperation and coordination with the relevant Entities of the Culture Sector at Headquarters.
UNESCO priorities on advocating culture as a driving force for sustainable development, which should lead at all international platform to recognize culture as a strong enabler for sustainable development and explore ways to develop a sustainable livelihood proposal by enhancing their skills.
Addressing these complex challenges requires community- led interventions focused on heritage preservation and sustainable development, which this project aims to achieve under various program and projects notably, the Korea Fund in Trust. This project also seeks to develop a cultural experience for both visitors and the local community.
Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives and the supervision of the Chief of the Culture Sector, the incumbent shall:
Assist the culture sector in developing and implementing various activities under the framework of World Heritage, notably World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism, World Heritage and Sustainable Development for Local Communities in the above mentioned countries, in particular the Korea Funds-in-trust Project, which activities will be implemented in Agra (India), Polonnaruwa (Sri Lanka) among others, by conducting relevant research activities, identifying partners and experts, as well as coordinating.
Assist the culture sector in conducting various capacity building local, national and regional capacity in the field of World Heritage, in conserving and managing cultural heritage; this includes not only local, national level but also at the local communities’ level through various technical training workshops to facilitate their involvement in heritage management and conservation.
Coordinate activities within the Framework of the UNESCO 2011 Recommendation on Historic Urban Landscape.
Assist the sector in the preparation of a publication to be published with the theme of “the Next 50” to be based on the Regional Conference held in 2023 to mark the 50th anniversary of the WH convention and reflecting the ways forward for the next 50.
Coordinate with the project stakeholders like experts, government bodies, NGOs for implementation and other related organization for collaboration for the ongoing projects.
Ensure adequate reporting of the aforementioned project that need to be prepared on a regular basis in line with UNESCO’ s established practices for funds-in-trust projects.
Perform any other duties as requested by the Director of the Office as well as the Chief of the Culture Sector.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Completed secondary, technical and/or vocational education.
Work experience:
- Minimum 4 (four) years’ relevant professional experience in the field of culture or related field.
- Work experience in supporting projects and coordination, related to any such projects of Culture Sector.
Languages:
- Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English and Hindi.
