The Secretariat of the WTO is seeking to fill a short-term position of conference room technician within the Conference and Visitors Services Section of the Finance and Corporate Services Division.

This is a short-term, six-month contract, which may be renewed, subject to the availability of funds and the performance of the position holder.

Under the supervision of the Head of Unit, the incumbent will operate and maintain audio-visual and IT equipment in the WTO conference rooms and will perform the following duties:

1. Operate, calibrate, install, set up, maintain, and test standard/approved equipment in conference rooms for internal and external meetings so that they are fully operational before each session.

2. Diagnose and resolve technical problems. Implement incident resolution processes and procedures, and follow up with others when a problem must be communicated to another group/unit/company.

3. Carry out, in collaboration with service providers, preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment including video projectors, cameras, screens, simultaneous interpretations systems, microphones, computers, specific applications, PLCs and controllers, networked audio-visual distribution systems, recorders, servers, etc.

4. Provide timely, high-quality support on technical aspects related to audio-visual and IT installations in conference rooms. Help to address issues related to technical support for meetings.

5. Provide advice and guidance to users on the operation of audio-visual and IT installations in conference rooms, and support colleagues when required. Draft standardized procedures and information guides, as necessary.

6. Help to coordinate service providers, supervise work, prepare requests for estimates, and receive and check deliveries of equipment.

7. Participate in tests of new software and hardware, the drafting of technical documents and specifications, and updating standard procedures and information guides of the Conference Room Technical Group.

8. Carry out or support small projects undertaken by the team related to a specific event, activity, or technological solution.

9. Perform other related tasks within the unit, as required.

Education and training:

Candidates must have completed their secondary education. An apprenticeship, training or certification in a relevant professional field and recognized by a professional body in the audio-visual, information and communication technology, or IT fields is an advantage.

Knowledge and skills:

Technical knowledge and skills:

Very good knowledge of at least one of the relevant areas for the position, such as simultaneous interpretation and communication systems, audio-visual distribution systems, audio-visual production systems, or computer networks for audio-visual, multimedia, and data systems.

Good knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Good knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications.

Excellent analytical skills, good judgement, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to analyse a range of information, break problems down into manageable tasks and identify possible solutions.

Work experience:

Minimum of five-years’ experience in the audio-visual, information and communication technology, or IT field.

Languages:

Excellent knowledge of French or English, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly, and a practical knowledge of the other language.
