Applications are invited for two Assistant/Associate Professorships in Materials Science in the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy. We seek exceptional scientists with a world-class research track record and a strong commitment to teaching. The positions are available from 1st October 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.The Department offers a leading research and teaching environment ( ). Successful candidates will demonstrate outstanding research achievements and a compelling vision for long-term science programmes, building on the Department’s strengths and Cambridge’s research environment to foster collaborations and deliver innovative science and applications.Applications are welcome from all areas of Materials Science, with priority for Structural Materials, Ceramics, and Materials Chemistry. One postholder will also co-direct the Department’s MPhil in Micro- and Nanotechnology Enterprise, a 10-month interdisciplinary programme combining taught modules and a research project, with contributions from Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering.Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant subject, demonstrate leadership in research, and show enthusiasm for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Candidates will contribute to academic activities within the Department and the wider School of Physical Sciences.Salaries are based on the level of appointment: Assistant Professorships start at £46,485-£58,596, and Associate Professorships at £62,098-£65,814 per annum.We encourage applications from women and candidates from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, as these groups are under-represented at this level.
