Job Title: 1:1 Support Assistant

Salary: £12.90 per hour
Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday
Position Type: Long-term, Full-timeAbout the Role:
We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 Support Assistant to join our team at a secondary Alternative Provision in Darwen, working with students who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. In this role, you will provide tailored support to students on a one-to-one basis, helping them engage with their learning, develop social skills, and overcome challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. This is a rewarding opportunity where your contributions will have a direct and positive impact on students’ progress and well-being.Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to students with SEMH needs, assisting with academic tasks and behavioural challenges.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and personal development.
- Create a safe and inclusive environment where students feel supported and motivated to learn.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to develop and implement strategies to meet individual students’ learning needs.
- Monitor students’ progress and well-being, providing feedback to relevant staff members.
- Assist with de-escalation techniques and support students during challenging situations.
About You:
- Experience working with children or young people, particularly in an educational or SEMH setting (preferred but not essential).
- Patience, empathy, and a positive, solution-focused approach.
- Excellent communication skills, both with students and staff.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Ability to work as part of a team while being flexible and adaptable to the needs of students.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
