PI name: Crispin MillerProject Title: National Mouse Genetics Network Data PlatformSalary: £35,846 to £55,816 subject to experience, plus relocation allowance and visa costs if required.About usMultiple positions are available within a newly established Data Science Team at the CRUK Scotland Institute. The Institute is a world leading cancer research institute situated in the vibrant city of Glasgow. It hosts approximately 60 researcher scientists at any one time. The Institute has an excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class metabolism studies and renowned in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis.Project outlineThe MRC National Mouse Genetics Network (NMGN) is a recent major new investment to support the enhancement of mouse research and its alignment with human clinical studies across a range of human diseases. The NMGN programme requires a scalable data sharing platform focused on the scientific priorities of the network.The data platform and outward facing data portal will support the capture, sharing and reuse of datasets generated by > 70 research groups across the NMGN. The platform will be delivered by a Data Science Team working in collaboration across the UK data management community.A position is available within this team for a bioinformatician.All posts will involve collaborating widely across the UK preclinical modelling and data management communities, and will entail working in tandem with a software engineering and data management team based at the Mary Lyon Centre in Oxford.Successful applicants will join an established highly collaborative and interdisciplinary team of software engineers, computer scientists, biologists and mathematicians, and will relish bringing these skills to bear in a highly dynamic and collaborative environment.Essential criteria: * A PhD or Masters in a relevant field (e.g., bioinformatics, computer science), and significant experience in bioinformatics data analysis.
- Demonstrable ability to write substantial bodies of code in R and Python.
- Knowledge of modern statistical approaches as applied to biological data.
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to work in inter-disciplinary research environment.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work concurrently on multiple projects.
- A desire to see the output of their work translated into real-world impact.
