Location:St Mary’s and Hammersmith campuses as required, with travel to other campuses as necessary.About the role:In July 2023 Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Imperial College London, launched the Fleming Initiative, a unique partnership offering an innovative approach to the challenge of AMR – combining research, behaviour change, public engagement, and policy to provide real-world solutions that work to protect the health security of local populations around the world.Under the Executive Chairmanship of Professor, the Lord Darzi of Denham, and the inaugural Directorship of Professor Alison Holmes, the Initiative aims to combine research, behaviour change, public engagement, and policy to provide real-world solutions that work to protect the health security of local populations around the world.Applications are invited from exceptional candidates to play a key role in the work of the Fleming Initiative delivering several research projects funded through its founding partners, Cephid, GSK, LifeArc and Optum, as well as supporting work to develop new funding applications and fundraising activities.While based at the Fleming Initiative, the post will also be linked academically, to the Department of Infectious Disease via its Section of Adult Infectious Disease.What you would be doing:
- Delivering a broad range of AMR and Infection research within the Fleming Initiative
- Directing, leading, or contributing to, research delivery and application development at the highest scientifically rigorous levels.
- Supervising MD and PhD candidates as required including the provision of pastoral support
- Contributing to any educational related activities undertaken by the Fleming Initiative as requested
- Participating in the planning and objective setting process for the Fleming Initiative if requested and the Trust’s Clinical Divisions where appropriate.
- Making a significant contribution to building and establishing links between the founding partners, and appropriate departments, faculties, wider university and other bodies
- Demonstrating excellent leadership skills with regard to individual performance, academic teams, the department, Faculty, Imperial, and when participating in national/international initiatives
- Working collaboratively with all members of the Initiative, multi-disciplinary team and the wider university as required
- Providing high quality care to the patients
The post involves both research and teaching responsibilities. The postholder will play a key role in the development of world-leading research programmes in their area of expertise.What we are looking for:The postholder will be expected to contribute towards the Fleming Initiative’s wider activities, encompassing a team science approach to addressing global health priorities.
- Full GMC (General Medical Council) registration
- Appropriate specialist qualification (and a license to practice)
- PhD in Infectious Diseases, antimicrobial optimisation or other area related to antimicrobial resistance
- Clinical and research experience in Infectious Diseases, antimicrobial optimisation or antimicrobial resistance
- Experience of having conducted interdisciplinary infectious diseases or AMR research working with a range of different disciplines
- Experience of having conducted healthy volunteer studies or other clinical trials within the NHS
- Broad understanding of the challenges, advances and opportunities of optimisation with a proven interest in new innovative technologies to achieve this
