JOB DESCRIPTION
Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Office of the Special Envoy for Syria (OSE) based in Damascus. Under the overall guidance of the Head of Office, the Security Officer reports to the Security Team Leader on all security operations and related matters.
Responsibilities
Within the limits of delegated authority, the Security Officer is responsible for the following duties: • Assists the Security Team Leader in the supervision of a Security Unit, as assigned. • Drafts and updates security contingency plans for a security unit. • Monitors prevailing local security conditions and trends and advises UN personnel, project personnel, and eligible dependents on security issues. • Contributes to security risk assessments for the area of operations. • Maintains continuing lines of communication with security focal points and other UN or non-UN stakeholders. • Monitors and evaluates office physical security measures and conducts security surveys of installations and facilities; implements security arrangements. • Monitors, conducts, and coordinates security operations. • Serves as a member of the Security Cell, contributing to implementation and evaluation of the security plan. • Investigates security-related incidents involving UN personnel, project personnel, or eligible dependents. • Assists senior Officers in briefing to the Security Team Leader on the status, activity, and requirements of the unit. • Assists in the evaluation of accessible areas, maintain tracking systems, and assist in the coordination of a 24-hour Emergency Response System. • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation, and reporting. • Documents requirements and background information used for data analysis. • Performs other duties as required.

Education
• High school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate. • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.

Work Experience
At least six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in the military, police or security management is required. Out of these six (6) years, at least one-year (1) experience and exposure international level in a conflict/post conflict is required. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in SIOC and security risk management is required. The Completion of Security Analysis Process and Practice (SAPP) is required. Experience in producing security analytical reports, Ad-Hoc SRM and PSRA for senior officials is required. Experience and proficiency in the use of the UN weapon system, Emergency communication system, and armored vehicles is desirable. The Completion Security Certification Programme (SCP) is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position advertised, fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

• This position is temporarily available for an initial period of six (6) months.
