Job DescriptionGrade UE07: £40,247 to £47,874 per annum, pro rata if part timeInstitute of Genetics and Cancer / CMVMFull time: 35 hours per weekOpen ended: permanentThe Opportunity:The Core Facility Bioinformatician will provide bioinformatics expertise and support to researchers across the institute. As a member of the established IGC Bioinformatics Analysis Core (BAC), the role involves working collaboratively with diverse research teams to develop computational workflows, analyze large-scale omics datasets, and deliver high-quality insights that drive cutting-edge biomedical discoveries.As a Core Facility Bioinformatician, this role will play a pivotal role in enabling ground breaking research at the IGC. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of computational and experimental science, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to address fundamental questions in genetics and disease.This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.The salary for this post is £ £40,247 to £47,874 per annum.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science (or near completion) or a closely related discipline.
  • Research experience in computational biology, particularly projects generating novel insights into human or medical genomics.
  • Demonstrable skills in project management, in particular the management of multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience in the analysis of high throughput biological datasets.

Professor David Argyle is the Head of College, the only conjoint Medical and Veterinary Medical School in the UK. The College employs over 3000 academic and support staff. The College has two Schools, the Edinburgh Medical School comprising three Deaneries; Biomedical Sciences; Molecular Genetic and Population Health Sciences and Clinical Sciences and the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.The undergraduate medicine teaching programme in the College enjoys a high reputation nationally and internationally, with over 1,300 students enrolled on the MBChB and Intercalated courses and nearly 1000 on the Veterinary Sciences BVS and related programmes. In addition, approximately 2000 students are currently enrolled in the College’s taught and research post-graduate courses, including an extensive range of online distance learning diplomas and degrees.
