UN Women : 50 UN Assignments: Advocate Gender Equality and Empowerment Through Digital Storytelling – Beijing

UNDP - United Nations Development Programme

JOB DESCRIPTION

Mission and objectives

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Context

The year 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (Beijing+30). Adopted at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995 in Beijing, China, by 189 governments, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) remains the most progressive framework for achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls (GEWE) worldwide. It addresses 12 critical areas, including education, health, political participation, economic empowerment, and the elimination of violence against women and girls. In celebration of International Women’s Day 2025 and to mobilize diverse stakeholders while empowering the next generation—youth in all their diversity—as agents for advancing the SDGs, the UN system in China, under the overall leadership of UN Women China, will organize a digital storytelling campaign titled “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” This campaign aims to highlight powerful and inspiring stories of women and girls, especially those who are often overlooked or marginalized。 It also seeks to promote programs led by women. By highlighting their experiences, the campaign seeks to amplify their voices, foster dialogue, and inspire action, connecting to the “6+1” Beijing+30 Action Agenda. This opportunity will provide a platform for the above initiative overall, raising awareness, contributing to women’s empowerment, and amplifying the voices of women and girls from diverse backgrounds. The campaign will take place from 6 March 2025 and continue throughout the remainder of the year, with the goal of celebrating and amplifying the voices and stories of women and girls in all their diversity, documenting and highlighting the challenges they face, and raising awareness of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the importance of Beijing+30.

Task Description

Online Volunteers will be responsible for the following tasks: ● Complete an evaluation form related to gender-related experiences and provide supporting evidence. ● Create digital content that may comprise written stories or videos that highlights the experiences of women and girls in alignment with the “6+1” Beijing+30 Action Agenda (the six core actions are: A digital revolution, Zero violence, Climate justice, Full and equal decision-making power, Freedom from poverty, Peace and security). Promote the inclusion of women and girls whose voices are often marginalized, such as rural women, women with disabilities, LGBTQI+ individuals, and youth, among others. These stories should celebrate the diversity of women’s voices, document the challenges they face, and inspire collective action towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment. ● Following the completion of the evaluation and screening of the host entity, publish the digital content on social media, ensuring that consent is obtained from the women and girls whose stories or visuals are submitted for storytelling, in accordance with the agency’s guidelines and procedures to promote awareness of gender equality.
