We’re looking for a dynamic Visitor Experience Manager to work as a key member of our wonderful Norfolk Broads nature reserves.
The RSPB Norfolk Broads reserves cover over 6% of England’s only wetland national park. They are made up of a diverse range of habitats reedbeds and wet grassland, estuary and woodland, and are home to some of our most precious wildlife including Swallowtail Butterflies, Fen Raft Spiders, Marsh Harriers, Bitterns and a huge range of wintering and breeding waders and wildfowl.
These amazing landscapes and wildlife attract over 25,000 visitors a year to the reserves and we’re looking for a Visitor Experience Manager to help us look after these visitors, lead on the delivery of an exciting events programme, café lite, admissions income, and our wonderful team of visitor operations volunteers.
Key activities
- Leading on development of events programme that celebrates the wildlife, landscape and work of the RSPB in the Broads and generates income.
- Lead on the running of our small Café Lite selling hot drinks, pre-packaged snacks and ice creams.
- Lead on income generation from admission fees.
- Liaise with national membership recruitment team to maximise opportunities to recruit new members.
- Manage part time Visitor Experience Officer.
- Responsible for team of visitor operations volunteers.
- Part of the Broads Leadership Team liaising with other managers in the Broads team.
- Act as a duty manager, this includes providing first aid cover, overseeing visitor Centre operation and being first point of contact for visitors, this will also require regular weekend working.
- Admin and budget management associated with the role.
- Acting as a representative of the RSPB to a range of audiences including visitors, neighbours, specialist groups.
What we need from you
We’re looking for someone who can combine their skills and experience in visitor operations with a passion for wildlife and the ability to bring these together to deliver a visitor pleasing ad profitable visitor experience on our Broadland reserves.
- Experience of managing a successful visitor project or visitor attraction.
- Ability to maximise opportunities for visitor engagement and income generation to deliver against agreed targets and KPIs.
- Experience of analysing and interpreting data in a visitor experience environment.
- Have a sound understanding of the systems and procedures necessary to run a visitor operation on a nature reserve.
- Knowledge and experience of visitor engagement techniques, ideally on a nature reserve or in a countryside setting.
- Experience of running a successful events programme.
- A natural leader who can motivate and inspire people at all levels with experience of successfully managing a team of staff and/or volunteers.
- To be computer literate.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Proven ability to plan and prioritise workloads.
- Problem solving skills and ability to work on own initiative.
- Ability to manage and respond to customer needs and feedback.
- Able to build and maintain strong working relationship.
- It would be great if you knew lots about the Broads landscape and wildlife but more important will be an ability and desire to learn what you need from the team around you.
This is a permanent part-time role for 30 hours per week.
