Department Overview:
The Data Science team consists of professional roles that provide consultative support with data & analytics-based business insights and/or solutions to guide decision making and/or strategic planning; it leverages and interprets data and analytical product to provide business specific or broad strategic insight by using a variety of analytics techniques and audience-specific communication skills. This area can also focus on gathering, analyzing and modeling all kinds of data to develop business insights or analytics solutions and generally involves the use of broad range of statistical and/or mathematical models/techniques and tools.
Team Overview:
The Data Science, Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL) Product & Pricing team is accountable for providing data-driven insights to stakeholders. The team’s insights drive strategic decision-making and tactical changes to the product make-up and pricing structure. The Team routinely collaborates with stakeholders across the RESL business, Treasury, Analytics, Insights and Artificial Intelligence, and more.
Job Description
The Data Scientist II, Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL), will partner with stakeholders from Canadian Personal Banking RESL to support data-driven strategies for the RESL portfolio.
Responsible for collecting data and a using wide range of data science techniques, including but not limited to data wrangling, profiling and visualization, statistical inference, to uncover actionable insights or build analytics solutions that guide decision making and strategic planning.

Understand business context and data infrastructure and translate business problems to viable data science solutions.

Use a wide range of programing languages (e.g. Python, Pyspark) and techniques for extracting and preparing data, applying statistics and various advanced analytics, along with business acumen to extract insights from the big data.

Visualize insights from the data to tell and illustrate stories that clearly convey the meaning of results to decision-makers and stakeholders at every level of technical understanding.

Collaborate with other partners, such as AIML scientists, data and business analysts, software engineer, data engineers, and application developers to develop scalable and sustainable machine learning/data science solutions that retains long term benefit to the business.

Solicit and offer ideas for improving business processes through insights with the objective of improving effectiveness and efficiency.

Educate the organization on approaches, such as testing hypotheses and statistical validation of result.

Help the organization understand the principles and the math behind the scientist process to drive organizational alignment.

Translate up to date information into continuous improvement activities that enhance performance.

Participate in cross-functional / enterprise / initiatives as a subject matter expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations.

Monitor service, productivity and assess efficiency levels within own function and implement continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exist.

Lead / facilitate &/or implement actions / remediation plans to address performance / risk /governance issues.

Actively manage relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions and ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements.

Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts.

Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite.

Provide thought leadership and/ or industry knowledge for own area of expertise in own area and participate in knowledge transfer within the team and business unit.

Keep current on emerging trends/ developments and grow knowledge of the business, related tools and techniques.

Act as a brand ambassador for your business area/function and the bank, both internally and/or externally
Job Requirements:

Undergraduate degree or advanced technical degree preferred (e.g., math, statistics, engineering, finance, or computer science) Graduate’s degree preferred with progressive work experience

3+ years of relevant experience in analytics, data science and/or consulting, ideally in an influencing or advisory capacity.

Experience with analyzing large data sets, drawing insights and inferences, and communicating outputs.

Demonstrated knowledge and application of analytical languages/tools/platforms such as Python, Pyspark, SQL, Databricks, and Tableau with a track record of delivering business impact and results.

Able to participate as part of a team with targeted deliverables, working on initiatives designed to improve decisions, processes, systems, and applications which support our businesses.

Knowledge of consumer lending, Real Estate Secured Lending, and pricing and hedging strategies/modeling considered a strong asset.
