Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)Description:The Department of Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital, in conjunction with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, is seeking a qualified full-time academic stroke specialist. The successful candidate must be eligible for a Full-time Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician Teacher (CT), Clinician Educator (CE), Clinician in Quality and Innovation (CQI), Clinician Investigator (CI) or Clinician Scientist (CS). The expected start date of the position is July 1, 2025, or shortly thereafter.The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and have, or be eligible for, certification in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The successful candidate will be several years out from fellowship training and hold a strong record of successful academic achievement and leadership. Academic interests will be demonstrated by specialization in education, quality improvement, or research, and accomplishments in quality, research, or educational scholarship. Academic excellence may be demonstrated by teaching and/or research nominations and awards, secured research grants, publications in leading journals, presentations at significant conferences, and creative professional activity with evident impact and renown.The successful candidate will take on the leadership role for the St. Michael’s Hospital – Unity Health Toronto (SMH-UHT) Stroke Program. The Stroke Program at SMH-UHT has grown rapidly in the past 5 years, and is expected to build further on its recent successes. This position will lead a team of dedicated stroke clinicians, investigators, scientists and allied health disciplines recognized for their success in teaching, clinical trials, and scientific publication. The Medical Director will be strategically engaged in regional, national and international outreach and leadership to expand the reach and impact of the Stroke Program.This role will be remunerated commensurate with hospital physician leadership roles. As part of the planned expansion of the Stroke Program the successful applicant will receive strong collaborative support from SMH-UHT administration and the SMH Foundation in order to advance the clinical, research and quality improvement activities in the division, and build its national and international stature. The stroke program at UHT works in close collaboration with an experienced Interventional Neuroradiology group offering further avenues for research and publication.The successful candidate will participate in the educational programs at SMH-UHT and the University of Toronto and collaborate or lead clinical research and quality improvement programs.
