Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesImperial College Healthcare (ICHT) NHS Trust wishes to recruit a research fellow in The Centre for Fetal Care at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital. This is a post in a busy tertiary unit serving a diverse and complex population and will be available from October 2021. The post is mainly focussed on research in Fetal Medicine and it is expected that the candidate will enroll on a higher degree (MD or PhD). The candidate is responsible for higher degree registration fees however a discount is applied for Trust staff (please access current information on this)’.There is also the opportunity to develop obstetric ultrasound scanning experience while in post. Clinically the applicant will also aid the unit as part of the on-call registrar rota with a full on-call slot and 2 clinical sessions per week. The aim will be for the successful candidate to seek external funding for research and tuition fees while in the post.Duties and responsibilities:Research sessions and two weekly clinical sessions which may include the following: regular morning ward rounds of in-patients in both obstetrics and gynecology. Assessment of patients in Day Assessment / Triage in Obstetrics, The Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynecology Unit is required during the day and Labour Ward cover is also integral. Elective Caesarean Section lists occur daily during the week when junior trainees are supervised operating on cases suitable for their level of training by consultants and senior trainees. Trainees are expected to participate in regular appropriate handovers to their colleagues and follow up patients with abnormal results. There are opportunities for supervised scanning in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and to learn basic surgical skills. - On GMC registered/ licensed Medical Practitioner
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification NTN in O&G OOP approval will need to be applied for from HEE

- Clinical Knowledge & Expertise: Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.
- Capacity for excellent clinical & diagnostic skills & judgement.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritise clinical need & to look at the social context of medical problems.
- Demonstrates clear understanding of obstetric practice in the UK
- Successful completion of Basic Surgical Skills course (or equivalent)

LanguageEssential criteria
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues which could be demonstrated by one of the following: a) that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or b) have the following scores in the academic international English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 6, Reading 6, Writing 6. However, if applicants believe that they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of the examples they need to provide evidence.
