About usResearch from UK DRI at UCL covers the journey from the patient to the laboratory and back to the patient with improved diagnosis, biomarkers and candidate therapies put to the test. Led by Professor Karen Duff, UK DRI Centre Director, the team will address the key unanswered mechanistic questions that link genetic and lifecourse factors to dysfunction in molecular pathways, in cells and in neural systems during the progression of the dementias.About the roleThe Duff lab is looking for a highly motivated, experienced and self-driven individual to work on an exciting project that aims to look a pathway involved in cellular clearance of pathogenic pathways related to AD and FTD-tau.The project will apply multiple techniques to study the earliest stage of tau pathology development in human neuron and in vivo tauopathy models. We are particularly interested in the role of the E3 ligase TRIM11 both in pathology development, and in its potential as a therapeutic to remove pathological tau.The role is available immediately and funded by the UK DRI for one year in the first instance.If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the Institute of Neurology HR Team ( ).A full job description and person specification for this role can be accessed below.Interviews are expected to take place on 27 March 2025.About youYou’ll have a PhD in biological science and experience in tau biology and assay development, with molecular/cellular neurobiology, and with target validation and lentiviral preparations. Experience in longitudinal imaging, iPSC, in vitro assays, and of working with mouse models is also essential for this role. A knowledge of TRIM biology would be very desirable.This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.What we offerAppointment as Research Fellow is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be as Research Assistant (salary £38,607 – £41,255 per annum) with appointment as Research Fellow being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer great benefits, some of which are below:
