10 PA Substantive ConsultantClosing date: 17th MarchInterview date: 23rd MarchApplications are invited for substantive consultant post in the Paediatric Intensive Care unit at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital and at the Royal Brompton (RBH) PICU-one clinical team on two sites. Candidates are welcome to apply from both paediatric or anaesthetic based training background. Proposed start date is August 2025.Main duties of the jobThe Evelina PICU comprises 19 to 33 beds over 2 floors depending on activity and patient case load. The post-holder will be one of a team of 16 paediatric intensivists providing care for the paediatric critical care unit and integrated retrieval service, STRS at the Evelina. There are 9 consultants in the RBH based paediatric critical care team. The successful applicant will provide a specialist service to children requiring intensive and high dependency care at one or both paediatric critical care sites in the Trust. They will also provide consultant-led triage and management of emergency inter-hospital referrals and transfers with South Thames Retrieval Service. For those applicants from an anaesthetic background, a fixed day in anaesthesia with anaesthetic on call can be negotiated. The post-holder will be part of the paediatric intensive care consultant on call rota, with 1:6 on call for the management of the intensive care and supervision of the South Thames Retrieval Service. Both services are managed from within the same consultant team. Additional on call commitment may be necessary and attract additional PAs.About usThe Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Guys and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust is the regional lead PICU, serving the health needs of children in the South East of England, including London. It forms an integral part of a large tertiary children’s hospital and regional children’s operational delivery network, including tertiary specialist services in neonatology, cardiology/cardiac surgery, neurology, nephrology, metabolic medicine, general paediatrics, paediatric surgery and clinical genetics, among others.   • Full GMC Registration On Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT by date of interview

  • Qualification as POCUS trainer Higher degree relevant to the speciality (e.g. PhD/MDres/MSc
  • Formal qualification or accreditation in a related specialty

Clinical ExperienceEssential

  • Completion of all competencies in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine (minimum of two and half years including 6 months anaesthesia) in a unit approved for training by the RCPCH National GRID PICM Training programme with evidence that this training has been signed off including six months of anaesthetic training OR equivalent OR an existing Practising Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine (substantive)
  • Valid APLS and NLS Valid level 3training in child safe-guarding
  • Paediatric ECMO experience
  • Paediatric retrieval experience
  • Valid APLS
