AcademicJob Category Faculty Non BargainingJob Title Postdoctoral Fellow- Synthetic ChemistryDepartment Research | Sammis Lab | Department of Chemistry | Faculty of Science (Glenn Sammis)Posting End Date March 31, 2025Note: Applications will be accepted until 11:59 PM on the Posting End Date.Job End Date Apr 14, 2026The expected pay range for this position is $55,000 – $75,000/annuallyJob Summary/DescriptionPostdoctoral Research Fellow in the Sammis Group in the Department of Chemistry at The University of British Columbia.This position will report to Dr. Glenn Sammis, as part of a joint project with industry, collaborating with external (industry) and internal (Pls and HQP) stakeholders.Qualifications:PhD degree in Synthetic ChemistryTechnical Experience with organic small molecule synthesis and purificationExpertise in multi-step organic synthesis and in the execution and purification of large-scale reactions. A knowledge of large-scale purification techniques, including distillation and crystallization, is an assetResearch experience, excellent communication skills, judgment, and discretion in working with various senior professionals and collaborating with internal and external agencies.Expected Responsibilities:Synthesize pharmaceutically-relevant small moleculesAnalyze complex reaction mixtures using NMR, IR, and Mass Spec.Assist our industrial partners with issues involving reaction purification at scale.Developing new crystallization methods, including solvent and counterion optimization.Optimizing distillation for small-molecule purification.Optimizing chromatographic separation, including the solvent and solid phase.Serve as the point of contact for external (industry) and internal (PIs and HQP) stakeholders on scientific and technical matters.Provide reports (written and oral) to our industry partner on a monthly basis.May oversee other research personnel.May provide orientation on research lab instruments as required.Maintain safe and clean lab space usedPerform other duties as assigned.Work Location:The primary work location is the UBC Vancouver CampusApplication Process :Seeking full-time PDF for 12 months with the possibility of extension.Anticipated Start Date: April 15 2025, or as soon as possible.Deadline to Apply: April 1st, 2025Only applications received through UBC’s online job board will be considered:Please submit the following documents in your application:A CVCover LetterContact Information for three refereesPlease indicate your legal status to work in Canada.All applicants are asked to address the following points in their cover letters:Their synthetic organic expertiseThe purification techniques that they have experience withThe earliest date that they would be availableEquity and Diversity Statement:Equity and diversity are essential to academic excellence.
