Sessional Lecturer – CTL1037H – Teacher Development: Comparative and Cross-Cultural PerspectivesCourse number and title: CTL1037H – Teacher Development: Comparative and Cross-Cultural PerspectivesCourse description: In this course we explore differences in the ways ”Knowledge”, ”Teaching”, and ”Learning” are constructed and understood in different cultures, and how these affect how teachers learn and promote learning, with particular emphasis on multicultural settings. An underlying theme is how one can best bring together a) narrative, and b) comparative/structural ways of knowing in order to better understand teacher development in varying cultural/national contexts. The choice of particular nations/regions/cultures on which to focus in the course responds to the experience and interest of the students and the availability of useful literature regarding a particular geo-cultural area with respect to the basic themes of the course.Estimated TA support: NoEstimated course enrolment: 25Class schedule: Tuesday 17:00 – 20:00, Thursday 17:00 – 20:00Sessional dates of appointment: 2025-07-01 – 2025-08-31Appointment percentage: 100Salary: Minimum stipend as of May 1, 2024 is $9,457.90 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should possess a doctorate degree in a relevant discipline and demonstrated currency and mastery of the subject area. Mastery may be demonstrated, but not limited to scholarly publications establishing expertise in the area. Knowledge of and experience with online teaching practice and facility with Zoom and Quercus platforms.Preferred Qualifications: Over and above the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to individuals with prior graduate teaching experience in this area.Description of duties: Prepare, organize, and teach this half-course graduate seminar; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work.Application Procedure: Please indicate in a letter of application why you believe your experience qualifies you to teach this particular course.
