The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigeria nationals for the position below at the Institute’s headquarters in Ibadan:
Position: Research Supervisor
Contract: 3-year renewable contract
Location: Ibadan
Closing Date: 31 March 2025
DUTIES:
- Supervise all field research activities for Striga resistance and nutrient environment breeding programs, including Striga seed collection, field layout and infestation fertilizer application, planting data collection and harvest.
- Supervise screening in the laboratory and screen-house using various specialized techniques. Assist in implementing new screening methods and prepare samples for genotyping.
- Supervise handling of Striga and nutrient enriched maize germplasm in the breeding nursery, including planting, hand-pollinations, and data collection. Assist in making selections.
- Supervise junior staff and casual labour, assist in data collection and analysis, and in managing special projects.
- Assist in carrying out effective screening to transfer an Imazapyt Resistance (IR) gene into the lowland adapted maize germplasm.
- Assist graduate students on research projects as required.
- Assist the scientist to maintain strict control of budget expenditures and casual employment.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements
QUALIFICATION:
BSc/HND in Agriculture, Plant Science or any related field with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience performing similar role in a well-structured environment.
COMPETENCIES:
The ideal candidate must:
- Have experience in the management of Screen House.
- Be able to lead in the preparation for Samples Analysis.
- Be able to lead in all Data collection process.
- Have experience in management of Cold Store.
