Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Diabetes and General (Internal) Medicine at Addenbrooke’s Hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.This is a new post, and comes at an exciting time in diabetes management both at Addenbrooke’s and nationally. You will be joining a team of dedicated and highly skilled consultants and allied health professionals providing cutting edge care to patients with diabetes from across the East of England and further afield.Main duties of the jobThe primary role will be in the management of type 1 diabetes, including pump therapy, and antenatal diabetes. We are one of the leading centres nationally for insulin pump therapy and hybrid closed loop therapy, with over 1,300 adults on insulin pumps, and a strong history of academic research into development of technology in diabetes. We also have a large award-wining antenatal diabetes service, which is well respected nationally.The appointee will have the ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of diabetes problems. There will also be ample opportunities to be involved in the teaching and training of junior staff, medical students and other health professionals, and the opportunity to become involved in clinical trials and research.You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Diabetes and Endocrinology, or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an Equal Opportunities Employer.Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesDiabetes and Endocrinology services at Addenbrooke’s are based in the Wolfson Diabetes and Endocrine Clinic (WDEC), which is situated in the Addenbrooke’s Treatment centre within the Wellcome Trust-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science (IMS), a purpose-built centre dedicated to research, education and clinical care in the field of endocrine and metabolic disease. The department benefits from close links with the University of Cambridge, and as a result has been and continues to be involved in pioneering research into many aspects of the management of diabetes.The role also involves a contribution to the in-patient service, which includes some general medical patients, but has no involvement in the general medical on-call rota. The current contribution to the in-patient service is 7-10 weeks per year whole time equivalent.Cambridge is a lovely place to live and work.
