Network Coordinator

We are currently looking for a Network Coordinator to join our Campaigns and Movement Building team.

In this role, you will work with a small team and with key allies to strengthen the local, regional and national network of groups working to end North Sea oil and gas extraction and secure a just transition for workers and communities.

You will be responsible for identifying and building relationships with key community groups, organisations and stakeholders. You will roll out activities designed to connect and strengthen key constituencies, primarily across England and Wales. You will play a key role in strengthening community networks and the wider movement by: bringing groups together to share, learn and collectively take action; through disseminating resources and information; and running events and workshops. Centering the perspectives and experiences of communities impacted by a transition away from fossil fuels needs to be at the forefront of your approach to movement building.

This role will primarily be focused on Uplift’s work to secure a just transition for workers and communities but will also help build progressive power and contribute to movement building efforts across Uplift’s work. You will also support UK wide coalitions and collaboration across the nations.

This role will require a high amount of travel to key regions across England and Wales and a willingness to work on the ground and in-person in various places.

Core responsibilities

  • Community based movement building: help design and deliver community based movement building activities in key regions across England and Wales, with the aim of strengthening key communities. Facilitate spaces where groups can come together, including designing events and workshops.
  • Training and skillsharing: work closely with key allies, you will support the sector to better articulate and advocate for a just transition . This will include coordinating training, sharing resources, and collaborating with partners at events.
  • Network and coalition building: Work collaboratively with allies, key partners and coalitions to strengthen the movement’s ability to fight for an end to oil and gas extraction in the UK and a just transition for workers and communities.
  • Hold strategic relationships with a range of groups: Be the primary relationship holder with a variety of community groups and organisations – identify opportunities to support their campaigning and movement building.
  • Strengthen campaigning networks: Provide campaigning support and advice to groups wanting to take action and help drive forward mobilisations and people powered campaigning tactics.
  • Represent Uplift externally at events and within coalitions – embodying the values and principles of the organisation.
  • Team and organisational contribution: Participate as an engaged member of the Campaigns and Movement Building team, assisting in the development of network and campaign strategies while fostering a positive internal culture.

Essential skills and experience

  • Experience in a similar or related role.
  • Extensive experience designing and delivering movement building activities and network coordination for progressive causes.
  • Confidence in designing and delivering in person events, community meetings, workshops or training.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build trusting relationships with a range of people and groups.
  • Experience of campaign strategy and the delivery of people powered campaign tactics.
  • An ability to work independently, managing your own workstreams and to identify and pursue opportunities as and when they arise.
  • A strong commitment to Uplift’s mission and core values of equity and climate justice.
  • An understanding of the climate movement ecology and an appreciation of the various roles differing actors play in creating change.

Desired skills and experience

  • An understanding of how class, place and other intersections impact on the climate justice movement.
  • An understanding of a just transition or experience in related movements.
